nice one roy. cw is where he shouldda gone after ruiz, he would have easily unified against the euro fatties to cement his legacy.
tyson made me. too busy on first 5yrs of my prof life to see more of roy. and roy was competing with another mike...ahem...the one that wore a jersey.
Huge Achievement for Roy, we'll if this was the belt he was looking for or if it's a step toward one of the major titles. I'd love to see him get a major, prove wrong all the people telling him he should have retired after Tarver 1.
problem is, he happened to be in the same era as the real one. he was superman though, first boxer i think being nicknamed one.
yet the light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long. And you have burned so very very brightly, Roy...
WBU belt. The same World Championship that Matt Skelton won. Audley Harrison won the WBF World Championship. Yeah, those are World Class belts.
Sadly No, but Roy could've if he just stayed at the weight where he fought Ruiz and then called out Vassily Jirov for the IBF cruiserweight title. Jirov was fighting pretty regularly on HBO and most likely would've netted Roy the same purse he got for the 1st Tarver fight. It would've been a hard fight for Roy against Jirov, but Roy was barely outside of his prime so he had enough to handle the aggressive southpaw and win the legit cruiserweight championship. If Roy had've taken that route that he would've gone down as a top 5 GOAT, and most likely retired undefeated (because I don't count Griffin 1 as a loss) It's a shame Roy let Tarver get his goat as that really cost him one hell of a legacy.
