At lhw, there is no fighter I would favor against Kovalev. Not Ward in California or Adonis in Canada. Both good fights though. Kovalev is scary.

I just question whether Ward, has it in him to go up and fight either of these guys. He has the skill and size to do it, maybe just not guts to do it.

Real boxing fans don't concern themselves with where a fighter is from or his skin tone. :nono

Toss up fight, but I'm picking Kovalev here because he has the tools necessary to hurt Ward and stop him.

I am surprised by the results here. I give Kovalev a chance, but am definitely inclined to favor Ward. Can't imagine the odds would favor Ward like this should this fight actually happen. :think

That fight would NEVER happen at 175.
Kovalev should be weight drained and sedated for co-Ward to accept the fight.

If Ward beats Kovalev, a Kovalev who has just unified the titles by beating Stevenson, then this will surely catapult him high up the ATG rankings. To be the king of 2 deep divisions would be some feat. And this is why he should've fought Dawson at 175.

Many of the EE power hitters from ex-Soviet programs are a different breed than the Latin hitters though. Both in style, and in schooling. Even Kovalev, though I havent heard it mentioned much, had over 200 amateur fights of which he won over 190 if I recall correctly.

There is a huge difference in the skill foundation and pedigree and style between the successful amateur EE guys and other boxers who have been known for KOs but ended up failing at the higher levels due to lack of skills.

Because the last crop of KO artists of different pedigree were "just punchers" does not mean the new crop from a completely different boxing ethos are also just punchers.

Because that's what always happens when a vastly superior boxer faces a hard puncher. :patsch Kovalev has a puncher's chance due to how hard he hits. That's about it.
