I agree with this. It's not asking too much to say, "If you're that many levels above your opponent, take more risks, land more punches, and actually go for the knockout". It would be a shame if the only way we ever get to follow Rigo's career from here on out is through IB's round by round threads. A real shame. But also an increasing likelihood if Rigo doesn't do more to win over fans.
aint nothin wrong with putting him in Donaire undercard or whatever, these racist execs are hating on a skilled black fighter, smh
If you watch Rigo vs Donaire you see Rigo is very close Donaire but donaire was not able to hit Rigo. Iust to see Rigo avoid those punches....never seen a boxer do something like that. In the Akbeko fight the ghanian guy did not want to fight.
Something of a pity because Rigo is an extreme talent, but a fighter does have something of an obligation to entertain a paying audience.
Im so tired of so called boxing fans saying pure boxer don't take risk .. What the fock does taking risk mean any got dame way? He take risk every time he steps in the ring, its not his fault that many fighters today lack dedication to their craft. It very stupid to ask a fighter to be dumb down his talent to the level of his competition so as to make for a more entertaining fight, for fans who don't know what they are watching. Here's a thought stop promoting Gatti like fighters, and promote more fighters with actual boxing skill and pit them against each other.
Well congratulations on everything you've done but you don't possess the knowledge you claim to have if you claim that Rigo's offensive abilities aren't on a very high level, let alone saying that "he's a bit one dimensional". Yes, it's obviously harder to score when you're coming forward, but the thing is, you won't make Rigo come forward by being behind on points. You need to be in a positions where you are winning on points, and in that case be sure that Rigo will be on the mission, but that's not happening as nobody is able to outbox him. You have to understand the background Rigo is coming from. It's the Cuban boxing school. There they teach you to win on points, not to rush until it's really needed. That means if you are fighting a Cuban and losing, he'll never be the one pushing the action and you will be in a situation where it's almost impossible to win the fight. Add Rigo's skills on the top of that, and you may find out why he is so good. He'll never take a risk if he doesn't need to, that's how the Cubans are taught to fight since the day one, that's their system. As for those "some fighters can do both", yes, those are the guys who are good defensively and are willing to go for the knockout. I could name a few in the divisions different to Rigo's, but although their skills are on a high level and certainly good enough to school and take out the fighters in their divisions, those guys don't have the skills of Rigondeaux. It's about boxers' mentality and even culture whether they go for the KO or take no risks. There is no "warrior" culture in Cuba, boxing is a sport and it's about ensuring a victory, simple as that.
HBO has every right to do it. They're in the business to make money and the reality is he doesn't have much of a following. What bothers me more is supposed boxing fans who call fighters like Rigo boring. The guy SCHOOLED Donaire and Agbeko. It was poetry. Donaire was P4P and Agbeko has never been one to shy away from a fight until Rigo. Yeah, I know I'm beating a dead horse. The forums are mostly *******s and the like now so this will fall on deaf ears.
Showtime will gladly snatch him up and actually put better competition in front of him. I personally enjoy watching Rigo fight. He's probably the most talented and skilled fighter to have ever laced em up. Agbeko, like most of his opponents went into survival mode pretty quickly. Rigo is active in his fights but his activity renders his opponent soulless and useless. Rigo really needs to move up to find competition at this point. Let's hope it happens sooner than later.
I mean...you are a boxing fan correct? The problem really is that Cubas amateur program produces boxing wizards. The rest of the world are light years behind. Right now in Cuba there's an amateur in every weight class that would probably whip the living **** out every pro "champion" our sport has. Even now you've got a handful. Hernandez at Cruiser, Perez at Heavy, Lara, Gamboa, Rigo. They're all left handed monsters.. Joel Casamayor was also Cuban....and "exciting".
HBO lost Floyd. Showtime knows boxing and marketing. HBO knows nothing. Probably racists. And the Media sucks a big dick as well. Rigo is amazing.
More like: In Cuba there's an amateur in every weightclass that would get their Cuban-glass shattered by every pro "champion" our sport has.
