there are dozens of sports that flourished in the past that are reaching redundancy now. Many sports have died and come back in different forms. There are aspects of flourishing sports that have diminished or are reaching redundancy too. In boxing itself, an example is that stamina is less of an issue in boxing than it used to be 20 years ago.

Moreover there are aspects of the sports environment that have changed, and the sport and its practisers have evolved to suit these changing environs. This is particularly evident in boxing, where the sport has evolved from a broad but highly skilled use of many weapons to a mixture of a chin/stamina/ability to land hard, into a sport with a solid rule base that you need to be tactically aware of in order to benefit from, to a 12 round sport requiring less stamina than previously. I would ask why you are being need to be told this, you are surely smart enough to see this.

So you're also arguing the sport of boxing exists in a vacuum, ok then.

By the way, Joe was never ripped. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef0162fd7d589d970d-pi

And look what happened when Carnera, WHO WAS STRONGER THAN WLAD, tried to grab Louis.

He got thrown around like a rag doll and then busted up with a combination.

Look at 51 seconds in that video I posted.

So now you're saying the sport of boxing is more tactical today than it was in the past? Keep in mind most of the rules that exist today existed in JL's time.

Simply put, I am asking you if you think the advancements in healthcare, nutrition, and conditioning training that are apparent in all other sports aren't being applied to boxers?

Yeah, Carnera wasn't stronger than Wladimir or any other elite level modern large heavyweight, but nice try. You clearly are not understanding my argument.

if you are referring to strength, why are you skirting my question about strength by writing about something unrelated to strength?

don't try and pave me off with writing something entirely unrelated to strength and then saying 'you wouldn't understand'. Just answer the question.

Uh, you do realize that Carnera was a CIRCUS STRONG man, don't you?

He was MUCH stronger than Wlad. He also had the actual skeletal structure of a big strong guy. He was naturally big and strong.

why isn't it allowed that Carnera was stronger than Wlad? Carnera was a strongman in his career too. Wlad is not known for such a career, although hes obviously a strong guy. It seems to me that lends the possibility that Carnera WAS stronger than Wlad.

But you seem to think its an ABSOLUTE FACT that Wlad was stronger, against the evidence, in fact without evidence. Why do you harbour beliefs that are against the evidence? Surely you should go with the evidence. Perhaps this is why you are avoiding the 'strength' argument.

Well Hell then, in that case Zishe Breitbart picked up an elephant, so clearly he is stronger than them all.

Circus careers aside, he simply wasn't, there is nothing in history as a fighter which would suggest he was.

Are you being daft? You are aware I am saying that these guys were specialists in that what they did was their job. They trained their bodies for their job, like an athlete or soldier does. I am bringing it up because you keep on making this historically inaccurate assertion that bowmen were simply a ragtag collection of teenagers and local yokels.

I am referring to tiny examples of change, not the overall picture of anything. So if I say that boxing went from a test of chin/strength/throwing power/stamina pre good ol' John L Sullivan to a test that required ringcraft, are you trying to say I am wrong?

If so tell me where this is wrong.

Right because Circuis De Soliel guys are weak, and considering Primo Carnera was HUGE, he could get away with some easy lifts.

You have to be strong as an OX to be a circus strongman, and stronger still if you're larger than all of the other performers.

You have to be able to perform some incredible feats.

Carnera weighed more than Wlad and had a larger skeletal structure, it's only natural he'd be stronger, especially considering he was a CIRCUS STRONG man.

Carnera would break Wlad in half.

There is absolutely NOTHING inaccurate about saying that teenage bowmen or yore could nock bows with ease that strong adults today have difficulty with.

But I can see that you want to discredit it since it works against your arguments.

You are aware most of the Cirque performers are current and former Olympians?
