Joe Louis edges it IMO. Assuming its a 15 round fight, I see Ali scoring some early rounds, but as te fight goes joe finds himself getting inside easier and attacking with those short punches, timing Ali, and potentially drops Ali once or twice. Obviously it won't be that simple, and it coul.d Just as easily go Ali's way. But, If I had to choose one, this is what I see happening.
You shouldn't be allowed to start this thread without providing a photoshopped picture of them facing each other.
The two greatest ever. Number three isn’t close really. As to which of them is better in terms of resume or head to head, that is truly had to determine. When Jim Corbett wrote his top 10 list he had Jim Jeffries and Peter Jackson as 1A and 1B, with everybody else scratching round for third place. I sort of find myself in the same position here!
This is the ultimate fantasy HW fight!!..These are the top 2 HW's of all time and I believe this would turn out to be an all out war!!..Right up there with FOTC if not better! I want to lean towards Ali winning a 15 round decision but im just not sure! Louis was pretty slick and no doubt Ali would be s****ed at just how resilient and accurate Joe was. Just like Louis would be pretty disturbed at Ali's speed and hefty jab.
Ali whips him to win a wide decision. Louis can never get set because the Ali jab offsets everything. Ali may even stop Louis just through sheer numbers of right hands and incoming he'd take. If Schmeling could do it, Ali definitely can. In a couple hours and more alcohol, I'll argue for Louis winning in the exact same way...
Fight them 20 times, and I think you'll get a variety of results. I could see Louis getting TKOed, I could see him winning...but the most common result IMO is Ali on points. Conn laid the blueprint...if he could outbox Louis, so could Ali, and Ai could stay away from him for 9 minutes more than Conn, if that's what it came down to.
I agree. Ali has all the tools to offset Louis`s strengths. The footwork/mobility and the height and range to keep Joe turning and keep him guessing. Joe`s disipline as a puncher might hurt him here as he would be looking all night for the opening that just isn`t there. Louis wouldnt throw wild punches. I believe Ali stops Joe on accumulation.
Lennox Lewis could beat anyone as long as he comes in focused and prepared. I woudn`t discount his chances against any heavyweight in history.
In fairness I think both Joe Louis, and Ali's reputations would precede them, and Lennox would be at his absolute peak mentally, and physically for both. Hasim Rahman, they ain't.
