Im tired of him viewed as a journeyman, a journeyman doesn't win against elite fighters such as Adonis Stevenson. Darnell has good power, speed and defence. I think he just has too much talent to not have a title. He has been mismanaged in the past and thrown to wolves. I kinda feel bad for him, I am from Montreal and I knew he shouldnt have fought Stevenson at all. First of all, Adonis was 178 pounds the day before the fight and the contract was at 168 so he paid fine. The NABA title was also supposed to be on the line which it wasn't.Even if he won, he wouldn't get fights because who would fight a guy that beats the best boxer? No one would take that shot. He got more exposure because of the media coverage though. So all the chances were against Darnell. He shouldn't fight at light heavy weight anymore, he is kinda smallish. He is 5'8 or 5'9 and 165 pounds so he made the switch to middle weight at 160 which is an extremely good decision. Anyways, I expect a big 2014 for Darnell and problem is he has to pick the right fights. Who do you suggest his opponents to be? In november, he fought Morgan Fitch and he clearly beat him but he got a Draw. A journeyman doesnt beat undefeated boxers or prospects. My suggestion: 1) Marcus Mcdaniel 11-0 (IBA middleweight champion) : this fight would help him get the IBA title which is a stepping stone to other titles. 2) Andy Lee 31-2: NABA and NABF middleweight champion. I think before even thinking of a fight vs GGG, sturm or martinez, he has to take those 2 fights. I read somewhere there might be chances of him fighting Blake Caparello but Blake is a light heavyweight. That would be a mistake because Darnell has learnt his lesson to not fight in this weightclass with naturally bigger guys. He needs to climb up the ladder and get a championship fight.
I remember when Boone upset a Philly prospect named Rasheem Brown, who I thought very highly of, way back in 2006. The guy is a legit spoiler and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go on a Freddie Pendleton esque romp if he got some solid management.
The guy deserves more then this and now he has good management btw. I feel bad for him as he has worked so hard and didnt get any titles yet. Im trying to be human here and I felt also bad for him when he was badly cut to the right eye vs stevenson. He lasted 6 rounds vs him and coulda gone further if not for the cut, this guy is a beast. Stevenson has improved drastically and for many other reasons he shouldnt have rematched him. If he can show resistance vs Stevenson, he will do fine vs any boxer in that ring. He is one of the most underrated boxer and has made a good deicsion to turn middleweight because of his size.
you say you read he's rumored to fight a light heavyweight but that he's made a decision to go to middleweight. he hasn't made 160 in almost 3 years. :huh
yes vs fitch he weighted in at 165 and now wants to be 160. He isnt big like I said, he is barely 5'9. Its a good decision. As for light heavy weight, I dont think it will happen and Darnell knows it. Its not his weight class but nothing is official as of yet. I mean its really an opportunity to fight Caparello in Australia haha but I just dont think its the right decision myself unless he wants to try to switch weight again.
Boone is a great spoiler and a solid stepping stone. Kindof a MW/SMW version of Emanuel Agustus. His problem is he aint gonna win a decision vs a true contender or a titlist. He could take the Lee fight, and if ANY rds are closish, theyre gonna go to Lee, period. Then the whole world will be crying robbery etc etc etc. He doesnt dominate ANY rds unless he's battering guys, and then he usually stops em. I think he'd do well to continue as a stepping stone type journeyman, the ultimate gatekeeper, kindof like Monte Barrett and Jason Gavern, Firtha, and Jameel McCline. The lower divisions needs those types too, and Darnell fits the bill to a tee.:think
Kevin Montiy, Bermane Stiverne, and Bowie Tupou would disagree with that statement. Yeah, neither has done what Adonis has, but all were highly touted and are still very viable fringe/contenders, and all got starched by a HW with very similar attributes as your Darnell Boone.:think
Boone also has knocked down Andre Ward, something nobody has done. He beat other undefeated fighters and made them to Draw. He simply has too much talent to not have a title.
Nice to see Darnell Boone getting some respect but he is the true definition of a journeyman. Calling him a club fighter would certainly warrant indignation however.
He's got a punchers chance vs Quillin, and maybe Sturm, but Froch, GGG, Ward, Steiglitz, Martinez would all dominate him.:nono
I always felt he should move down to 154, that's his real weightclass The problem is that no one pays for a spoiler, he already ruined his reputation and marketability as a contender. Even at 175 no promoter wants to risk his fighter His only hope is to force his way into championship, this can be best done at 154, I see him beating Kirkland, Molina and Canelo
really?????? He'd be seriously drained and all those guys have skills Boone has had trouble with. Again, punchers chance vs Kirkland, but if he was drained, he'd likely be starched himself before he got off.:think
