Proper sponsorship and management is something Western athletes in general have. They are literally given serious contracts and offers upon turning professional. With that comes proper management that carefully guides them towards a longer career and by having a longer career it means making more money in the process. In third world countries proper sponsorship isn't exactly offered upon announcing anything, you have to go after it and to do so you need serious connections that would accept that offer. Two completely different worlds you're comparing here.

That said, NO ONE will fight or work for free.

Silly thread really, Every fighter tries to maximize their earning potential because they have such a limited time in the sport. For many of the lighter weight classes they tend to have to fight the best available because there are no cash cows in the very light weightclasses. As for many of the 2nd world fighters like GGG, Kov and Prod, they do not have a huge natural base of fans and quite often have to take on all comers to make a name for themselves.

I also hate the word duck. I like Pac but I would not say he duck Floyd in 2009 but rather he went in another direction with his career (and probably made as much if not more money in the process)
