Tommy Coyle looks a good prospect

To be fair Kevin should be beating all the LW at domestic level

 

He's achieved everything at domestic level though Billy.

From what we've seen of him, he's fringe world class. He wants to be a world champion, so he has to involve himself in fights which are going to carry him back up to that world level and then if/when the time comes - he needs to do the business.

 

Why doesn't Eddie get Gonzalez or Beltran to face Kevin?
That would be a far better eliminator than Coyle surely and a both would be great fights

Agree with you, but we both know after both of there performances against Burns those fights won't happen.

Gonzalez is a very tricky fighter, he impressed a lot of people when he came over but Ricky deserves a lot of credit the way he bit down on his gumshield and came away from that fight as the victor.

As for Beltran, you're fully aware more than most that their's unfinished business there between him and Ricky.

I'd be shocked if Hearn put either of those fights on the table for Mitchell, but you're right its those level opponents Mitchell should be heading towards.

 

Nonsense. He's only won one British title fight in his entire career - and that was at super feather. He hasn't faced Rees, Coyle, Matthews, Flanagan, Crolla, Gethin etc etc I think he'd beat all those mentioned above, but he has plenty of unfinished business at domestic level.

But I get the fact that it's the thought of a world title that is driving him on at the moment. I thought he looked sensational in his last two performances - flawless even. Let us see if he can carry that sort of form up to world level.

 

World title opportunities is and should be his goal. Domestically, I think just like you that he beats all of those names mentioned.

He's won the British title, he put in a terrific performance in beating John Murray who was the other main man domestically at the time and he fell short in his fight to Burns.

Like I said before, in my opinion from what we've seen of Mitchell he is definitely fringe world class. As of yet, when he has stepped up he has fell short - but there's no doubt in my mind that other than Burns, he's the next best Brit in the division and is above domestic level.

I agree , but what i want to know is why did Hearn say after the Choi fight that he was going to get John a world title shot? I find it funny that Hearn was planning on getting him a world title shot, but then he doesn't even put him on the Burns-Beltran undercard in September, but a month later he offers him a take or leave it job at short notice against Coyle at LIGHTWEIGHT. That sounds like a plan not to get him a world title shot if you ask me..
If Hearn is any sort of man he will get John another good fight because he owes it to him. Simpson is always seemed to be the away fighter because he never had the promoter's backing, but he has a good following in Scotland and is well respected throughout the U.K.
IMO apart from Froch, Burns and Khan John Simpsons resume is one of the best if not thee best of the active fighter's today in Britain albeit's it domestic level..

 

Beltran, Gonzalez or Ameth Diaz are the sort of fighters Mitchell should be fighting. Not Tommy Coyle. No disrespect to the boy, but he is a backwards step from Mitchell's last opponent. After that fight at ringside you even saw the look on Mitchell's face when Hearn mentioned Coyle as his next opponent :-((.

 

I think Hearn has made similar promises before. Sure Crolla was promised Rees and Derry promised big things too. I think the problem with Simpson is that he is unpredictable. I don't know why Hearn never got him the fight I was told that he was going to be fighting Martinez and that there was also talk about Mendes. Simpson should fight Josh Warrington. This is a fight he would go in as a heavy favourite and could get him back in the mix. He could then have another crack at Selby for the European although if Hearn was seriously keen on building boxing in Scotland's he would build Simpson up for a World title fight. In honesty I think Simpson is going to end up being a stepping stone for fighters moving on. He doesn't deserve that. He's a very good fighter who can win titles and is always in good fights.

Your right if Hearn is serious about boxing up here then he would build Simpson up so it will be interesting to see? The thing is i remember Hearn saying back in May at the Burns-Gonzalez fight that he was going to bring the big nights up here because we had been starved of late and that he had big plans for Scottish boxing, but he must of forgot Ricky had 5 world title defenses up here before that. And he must of forgot about Scott Harrison's big nights up here as well. The good thing is the boys coming through have this platform because of Ricky, but time will tell if he is serious about boxing up here or if he just in it for Burns..
