Because too many on these forums are little 20 year olds who hype up fighters like Lucas and Sergio with their man-crushes.

Anybody saying Cotto has no chance has not been around long enough.

People mention Trout, who does not fight anything the same, size, which Martinez does not use in terms of bullying, or reach, and they mention volume, speed, movement, power. Volume can backfire against the timing of Cotto, speed, we're not talking close to Pac speed here. Cotto has been able to handle the speed of many a fast fighter with the timing on his jab, he's never had a problem with movement. He doesn't have the size in this one to cut off Martinez but, great boxing and solid footwork will still make movement not the factor people believe it to be. Power and a couple of factors involved with size I see as Cotto's biggest problem.

If Martinez catches him with one of those sneaking in bouncing uppercuts early, before Cotto gets his timing down, it could spell trouble, and Cotto should go after the body with ferocity early to make Martinez's head a more achievable target for him. Good fight, people need to throw Trout and Pac out the door in their assessment, Trout because he doesn't fight close to the same, and I don't how people think a brawling Cotto against the greatest brawler destroyer of all time in Pac is legitimate grounds for assessment, that is the biggest boxing fluke I can recall.

Pac, a little guy, a midget stopped Cotto!!! Martinez is bigger, faster, is superior to Cotto all the way around. Martinez will stop Cotto, unless he his injuries are still too severe. He will retire soon............Golovkin will stop Cotto, but Cotto will not go anywhere near him............

The Martinez that fought Williams and Pavlik I would have tipped to stop Cotto. Mainly because I think his power would find Cotto and put its stamp on the fight. That Martinez was capable of fighting and fighting hard, and would have Cotto backing up by mid fight... with Martinez winning the championship rounds no question. He simply had too much, imo, for Cotto.

But I do think that today could be a different fight.... while Cotto is past it himself, Martinez is looking old and vulnerable lately, plagued with injuries and inactivity.... I see openings where Cotto could set him up with some good timing and counters, I actually think we have a good fight on our hands.

I still favor Martinez, but its a shaky pick at this point.

    Imo

Both are past it and this is Cotto's first fight at middleweight. Anything is possible here.

Trout is a poor mans Martinez. With that being said cotto wasn't inshape for the trout fight. He put it all in for the mayweather fight. Roach is gonna have cotto using his jab and alot of bodyshot. Martinez hasn't looked good. That's why it's an intriguing fight. Can't wait. If Martinez has anything left I think he wins.

the only speed guys that cotto has fought other than manny are shane and zab...whose best days were at 135 and 140, respectively.

youre comparing guys that fight with eight ounce gloves to a guy that has proven punching power with ten ounce gloves(dzin, pavlik, barker, pw) and is a legit 160. cotto is not even a legit 154.

the only way cotto wins is if sergio is truly shot.

the sergio that fought chavez beats down cotto.

Yep... and Sergio has had plenty of time to recover. He's just been cleared for gym training. The fight is months away, he should be fine and in the same shape he was for the Chavez Jr fight.

Cotto has done nothing at 154. He will do even less at 160. Martinez is well-settled into the weight and has lights-out power at 160. The only unknown variable here is Martinez's health, if he's shot, permanently compromised by injury. If he's close to 100%, Cotto will get stopped.

Trout has one of the best jabs in boxing, Martinez has no jab. martine has power, Trout doesnt have much, Trout in his prime, Martinez is not.

    It's a terrible comparsion

Even if its the Martinez that fought Serigo, doesnt mean he beats down Chavez. Chavez is a nobody!! Didnt veen swing and has fought cupcakes his whole life and just lost to vera. How the hell does he compare to Cotto??
