I don't get the point of that seeing as Leonard did take on Hearns less than a year later.

And gutted it out against the odds before knocking Tommy out in an epic battle.

Something that was far beyond the capabilities of Manos de Piedra who was splattered by Hearns and fought like a ***** for the fights (very, very) brief duration.

the question is, do YOU know what shot means?

it's not this natural decline bull**** you keep handing me and no, Hagler was NOT undispued champion at the time of their meeting!

listen to the F*cking tape! He is introduced as WBC champ. why do u people keep substituing your propaganda for FACTS!

and "all great champions go thru WHAT phase"?

passing over another fighter for FIVE years?

repeating the words of Tim Ryan "Sugar Ray said he was counting on the slowness of Hagler. he said he had lost a lot of speed"

so I'm supposed to give this charlatain his props for avoiding the best years of the best p4p fighter of his time, and then chalk it up to "it took a hell of a man to dethrone Hagler and that an was Ray leonard"

what a coincidence, the only man good enough to beat him and it just happened to be the last fight of his career!

you people have no shame do you?

you lie to play down cowardice, spin it then say "all great fighters go thru this phase!"

then u play down his losses as well, saying "he declined exponentially" while his opponent (Hagler) went thru a "slight natural decline"

in his last fight of course

so if Leonard declined so much with each and every year as u say, why then did he face his opponents LATER rather than sooner when he was more together if he was cleared to fight the same year (1982)?

as for the losses, I seem to recall Camacho was beat to a pulp 5 yrs earlier and really shouldnt have been given a license to box after that

Hector was equally washed up, and really LOST to Duran (45 yrs old) and with a huge reach and height disadvantage, so it EVENS OUT!

hector was just tougher than Ray

and altho Ray was much the bigger man physically, Hector had more INSIDE where it counts. He took Ray's best shot flush early without flnching and then heroically decapitated him!

so much for the "Ray could never be knocked out" myth

 another ray leonard myth exposed

and as for the Norris fight, we all know that Leonard couldnt deal with speed anyway (see Hagler - leonard tape round 6)

no layoffs. no weight controversy. no split decisions. no excuses

Ray had gone unbeaten 11 yrs with five championships and it took a helluva man to dethrone him

that man was Terry Norris :yep

Enough with this ignorant rubbish. Can we talk about the true greats who hold KO`S over your boy ? I can remind you :) KEITH MULLINGS, JULIAN JACKSON,SIMON BROWN ,LAURENT BOUDANI. Terrible hanging his hat on a decision against a drug addled, worn out old ex champ ,actually kind of pathetic right ??Come on now, you get the picture...

yes I can see u dont care to comment on why Terry's chin held up so beautifully in the leonard fight (a huge underdog by the way) while Leonard's crumbled like a cheap deck of cards

if u are going to harp on Terry's chin, u must FIRST discuss Leonard's and how it was inferior to Terry's :smoke

I KNOW I do which is the reason I gave my warning earlier that it's futile to even bring it up

    Norris was better

    Norris was faster

    Norris was smarter

and Norris was 100% more professional

I give Terry an A+ for that performance

Can we have a bit of perspective on this?

You do realise that after 13 rounds Hagler was BEHIND against Duran?

You do know the scores in that fight?

Not a lot of " soul crushing " there then.

As for Mugabi, his number 1 ranking by all 3 bodies at Middleweight after 25 fights most of which were at Light Middle was probably a lot more to do with Mickey Duff, than his ability to fight a full blown middle who was a 65 fight veteran.

I have no problem with folks admiring Leonard but " bigging up " his opponents at the time he fought them is bull****.

If it wasn't for Tommy stupidly fighting fire with fire against Hagler, which was great for the fans, but suicide given their respective chins, Haglers decline would have been exposed then, because he was NEVER going to outbox Tommy.

So what Leonard actually fought was a guy who must have thought all his xmas's had come at once when Tommy decided to trade with him, china chin and all. Then a virtual novice at Middle, who still had his moments in an 11 round slugfest.
