Floyd taking time off to address his body injuries the best choice career-wise?

IMO it was, he had a major body injury that needed to be taken care of. He stated on multiple occasions that he had suffered many years of abuse and it was taking a major toll on his body. Many NBA/NFL players today play through these kinds of injuries and they become more and more susceptible to long term/permanent damage.

I think he made an extremely intelligent choice in doing so for the sake of his career. If he had continued fighting, he could potentially have had his career cut short due to the lingering body injury. Many go on to regret it as they have their careers cut short.

After the two mega bouts in 2007, he called it quits for 20 months and came back and won beautifully/dominated the #2 p4p fighter in the world.

IMO a great decision was made.

Similar to what Andre did last year. He definitely could have continued fighting but the doctor advised the man to get surgery to fully repair his right hand/arm that was injured when he was 12 years ago. He did not realize the severity of it until he went for an MRI.

Andre now claims to punch more harder than he did in the past.

It will probably better his career as a whole.

Now Floyd is really seeing the fruits of his labour. Making more money than he's ever made, dominating the sport because of that wise decision and enhancing his already rich legacy.

Mayweather made so much money during the De La Hoya and Hatton fights that he really could afford to leave literally. When you think about how much money Mayweather would have made in 2007, it would tempt anyone to go on hiatus. He had just fought the biggest Mexican fighter and one of the biggest International foreign boxing stars in a span of 8 months. If it weren't for the IRS, dude literally wouldn't have had an incentive to return. He was already near 40 professional bouts, ranked Pound 4 Pound, and was one of the richest athletes in the country at the time and really didn't have to box anymore.

 

Losing his testicles isn't an injury. Although not fighting Pacquaio was certainly good for his health, he said it himself.

#1 I want to make a case for the art of ducking: If it was negative, why do prospects duck each other early on...The answer to make sure they fight later as bigger names & avoid early damage. I am willing to forgive Mayweather for ducking Margarito, Spadafora & Pacman...If he fights them even as late as of 2016
