Is it fair to say Rigondeaux's win over Donaire eclipses Mayweather's best win?

Let's look at the facts. Mayweather never faced his biggest threat like Rigo did with Donaire. Tbh Mayweather throughout his career ducked at least 5 of his biggest challengers.

Rigo schooled Donaire with ease while Mayweather's best win, the corpse of De La Hoya pushed Mayweather to the limit and arguably ecked out a draw.

 

Rigo's win over Donaire is one of the best wins in recent boxing history. I can't think of anything surpassing it unless I want to go WAY back. The only thing Floyd could've done to surpass it, was beat Pac in May 2010 but that didn't happen due to various reasons.

Also, Mayweather comfortably beat DLH 9-3. No chance that was a draw. Ridiculous.

edit: Come to think of it, Marquez' KO over Pac is probably up there with the Donaire win.

 

I think the question is, has Mayweather ever schooled a guy who was legitimately top 5 p4p at the time. I'm not up to speed on past p4p rankings. Rigo's win over Donaire is certainly one of the best in recent times. I'd agree with the above poster that JMM KO6 of Pacquaio was huge too but in a totally different manner: a spectacular and iconic one punch KO as opposed to Rigo's 11/12 round schooling.

The way donaire looked against a washed up darchinyan one could argue that donaire may have been overrated or even past it when rigo beat him

Coralles was a top 5 p4p fighter when he challenged floyd. Marquez was a top 5 p4p fighter when he challenged floyd. Mosley was a top 5 p4p fighter when he challenged floyd.

 

Also I've always believed Donaire was rated way to high p4p for his actual skill level in the lower weight classes. That being said he did earn his titles by winning his big fights. But I knew he would be exposed by a skilful slick boxer who knew how to work the ring.

Nah, I think he was rated just right. He was a clear top 5 P4P boxer when he knocked out Montiel.

 

The fact that Rigo did it in his 12th pro fight makes it an outstanding achievement. Mayweather has faces other top 5 P4P fighters as another poster has stated but in his 12th fight he was still involved in 8 rounders

 

Thanks, that's why I was genuinely asking, I had an idea about Coralles being top 5 p4p and knew Marquez and Mosely were p4p top 10 or so, but I wasn't sure.

Coralles is possibly Floyd's top win. It's hard to give him full credit for the JMM win as JMM had to go up 2 weight divisions and Floyd cheated him on the scales but it was still a damn impressive win nonetheless and I don't think the result would be much different if they fought at any stage or weight. Mosely was a good win too, but not much if any greater than Rigo's win over Donaire as Mosely was pretty old and probably past prime then, in my opinion.

 

Mayweather turned pro at what age though? 20?

 

I think Donaire's ranking was pretty accurate. He was voted fighter of the year in 2012 also by many.

 

I don't think that has much to do with it as Rigo had so many amateur fights and was a lot older than Mayweather when he turned pro so couldn't afford to be still in 8 rounders.

 

Donaire is so overrated,hell ancient darchinyan pushed donaire to the limits.Donaire is product of uncle bob!Donaire is good fighter but not some mystical ATG warrior.
