People are obsessed with this Mayweather-Pacquiao ****. And it's the same 5 or 6 posters creating Mayweather-Pacquiao threads all day and night. Part of me wants them to fight just so that people will stop this ****. But then again, the loser of a Floyd-Manny fight would ***** about their man being too "old" and out of his prime.

Back to the topic at hand.

Floyd had defeated Oscar and Hatton in 2007; and was seemingly staring at a field of hungry contenders.

Except...

Paul Williams was about to take himself out of the picture for a while by shitting the bed against Quintana. Took him a while to recover credibility from that loss, despite avenging the loss in quick fashion.

Margo was coming off a loss to Williams and at that point his most notable win was against Cintron (who was already recognized as being a bit of a head case). Yeah, he still defeated Martinez, but Sergio was unknown and green at that time. Either way, he wasn't a leading contender at that point.

Shane Mosley was coming off a loss to Cotto; and then did himself no favors by struggling with Mayorga.

That leaves Cotto...but Arum wasn't in a hurry to make a fight with Floyd at that point. Eventually, they did fight...and the fight turned out the way most everyone expected it to go anyway.

So, not quite as many options as Freedom would lead you to believe.

 

Pacquioa has had damn near the same fight night weight as Mayweather for years now going all the way back to when he was draining down to lightweight. They're the same size
