This titanic tilt would be filled with blood and gore as Burns lands his trip wire right and drops Holmes repeatedly, outmuscling him along the ropes with stout physique and powerful buttock propelled surges. But Holmes, ever resilient would make a comeback in the latter rounds... Who wins this fight for the ages?
This is as near to a sure thing as you can get between two fighters of this calibre. Burns just doesn’t have anything to answer Holmes’s advantages.
It is alright to pick a smaller fighter over a bigger one in some situations, but they have to have some sort of equaliser such as being an all time finisher. Tommy Burns was an awsome finisher and it was enough against limited bigger heavyweights, but against somebody like Holmes he will not have a suficient equaliser.
The fact that he was the champion, means that in theory he would have had to take on any contender who emerged. That sort of puts his feat of winning the title into perspective.
Burns has the right mix of gumption and pluck to pull the trick here. Plus his very potent right hand. Why, just look at the way he handles an analogous fighter in the great Bill Squires, a practitioner of both fistic science and feats of strength, a veritable Holmes of his day. Laugh all you want, but if Holmse had been a contender when Burns was champion, you could have paid Burns enough to take the fight.
