That's exactly the reason because he's SCOTTISH and by the way Joe Calzaghe only became British when he beat Jeff Lacey and Mikkel Kessler before that he was just Welsh.
Another thing Scotland had another fighter in Scott Harrison who was the polar opposite of Ricky Burns, Scott didn't just "blow his own horn" he used to bang the drum as well and he was also swept under the carpet by Sky sports and the So called "British boxing media". Scott was a 2x world Champion and had over 9 world title fights before Ricky Hatton won his title and you would have fought Ricky was the only world champion at the time and that's including Joe Calzhage.

I agree it hurts a fighter in the UK not being from England, just playing devils advocate here :) Andy Murray in tennis becoming 'British' after wimbledon. The higher weight classes traditionally get abit more exposure in the media tbf... Unless someone is a true showman like a prince naseem.

They were hyping Mitchell up something else before the Burns fight. I'll tell you what the next time you watch Ringside and you will here that qu,eer hawk Adam Smith say "Our very own Carl Froch wow" or " Our very own Tony Bellew" but when he mentions Ricky it goes like this " You even have Ricky Burns UP IN SCOTLAND" no joke watch it :verysad

Yeah that's true, they spoke about Mitchell like he was the favourite and Burns smashed him. I have heard Adam Smith speak about English fighters in a different sense to Burns, Calzaghe, Cleverley etc.

Perhaps they should have gone into in-depth detail and explained why Ricky is the most undeserving world champion in boxing today?

    Would you have preferred that?

But thats the problem with boxing isn't it ...bad decisions are so common now...........someone has a bad decision go their way and the response is

" well ive been on the wrong end before so i dont care "

    like that makes it ok

It's all down to money at the end of the day...

Ricky doesn't look like he'll make them a bucket load of cash anytime soon so doesn't get the credit he deserves. It's not an antiscottish thing IMO, purely money...

He has had an off year by his standards, and looks to be slipping a bit after a tough fight against Gonzalez and a controversial draw with Beltran but hopefully he will be back to his best against Crawford.

I have always said Ricky deserves more credit for what he has achieved, he is a two weight world champion after all. I do think it is partly to do with being Scottish but I don't think it's the only reason, I mean Frampton got a lot of hype on sky and fans so I'm not sure what it is. The build up to the Mitchel fight was criminal imo, you would have thought Mitchel was the champ.
