If Quillin ever gets the nerve to fight Golovkin I can guarantee that Golovkin would not only fight Quillin, but knock Quillin out in a mismatch............Quillin keeps running from Golovkin. Golovkin wants to fight Martinez also, but Martinez wants a bigger money fight against Cotto, much easier fight for Martinez. Golovkin would knock Martinez out. Martinez will knock Cotto out........ Someone get Quillin to call Golovkin and sign for a fight.....................bet Quillin will refuse once again.........
Stupid stupid thread...GGG has had over 400 fights..! Go too YouTube and enjoy "THE GOD OF WAR"...there's heaps of gold..!
Everyone wants to see Golovkin get some quality fights - as long as he remains at 160 it is difficult tho. If he can't get Sergio in the ring (as is now looking increasingly likely) or anyone out of the following pack a move to 168 is looking inevitable sooner rather than later. The problem he faces may be the same at 168, however, the top guys aren't gonna want to fight him - specially while he still lacks the MW credentials, unless the money is right. What I can quite easily see happening is Golovkin snagging someone like Vera, destroying him....then running into another wall of silence from potential opponents. Of course he'll get guys in the ring if HBO are willing to fork out 1 or 2 million $, but they need to establish his brand to make that worthwhile. Despite the fact that it may irritate some posters that GGG gets so much attention, in the real world - where HBOs revenue comes from, GGGs momentum is actually just starting to grow.
This post is so full of fail that I don't know where to begin. Erislandy Lara takes "The God of War" to school and Andre Ward ends the myth completely. I'd bet money on it...
I disagree. I'm sure there are 2-3 guys @ 168 who'd love nothing better than to get a piece of Golovkin and put an end to this modern myth. That said, no way in hell does Golovkin go up to 168 anytime soon unless it's for BIG money. That division is stacked and most [if not all] of the guys in the top 10 send Golovkin back to 160 with a loss...
Lara - Golovkin. Great fight - both fall into the risk / reward trap tho, but I'm guessing 160 rather than 154. Very hard one to call, but the Lara who struggled with Angulo probably gets cut off and broken down whilst managing to score enough on Golovkins face trying to keep him off that GGG ain't looking like a schoolboy for a month. Golovkin - Ward. Great fight - ain't quite sure what 'myth' the bigger p4p #2 ends tho ( unless it's a total mismatch which I think vastly unlikely) - in the likely event of GGG losing all it'd prove was that he wasn't the best 168 - and #2 p4p fighter in the world. Look, I appreciate that some posters think Golovkin gets too much attention, and resent the hyperbole around him, but really, does it matter so much? He's an exciting fighter who appears to be generating interest in the sport - is that so troubling? He's been remarkably active and perhaps seems to have been campaigning longer than he has - it's only been about 15 months since he started fighting on mainstream US TV - that really ain't that long and only 5 fights into to his 'mainstream' career. A US based fighter could have had twice as many televised fights before reaching championship level.
I don't think fighters are interested in ending myths tho. They are interested in making money and ideally winning. Most of the SMW top 10 beat GGG? - care to put some names to that - y'know, for the sake of posterity? You talk as if there's some huge chasm in talent level between 160 and 168 - admittedly with Ward (and to a lesser extent Froch) atop the pile there's a coupla of more recognisable names, but journeyman level fighters bounce between the division all the time in the same way that guys bounce around in the 140 - 154 divisions. What's perhaps more remarkable to me is that few fighters from 154 take the small 6lb step up to 160 - though I suppose that's relatively easily explained by the singular lack of big fights to be made at MW (especially with US interest).
No need to guess, here's Quillin to explain why it hasn't happened: bad risk reward, risky opponent, very high KO ratio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5j264Mkfo8
quillin is saying sergio is not known outside of boxing community but still wanna fight him. and golovkin is in the same boat-not enough money to be made, yet suddenly the high risk-low reward applies. crazy how golovkin shakes them in their core.
If Golovkin is the best fighter @ 160, the three guys @ 168 with the biggest names all KO Golovkin. So yes, maybe there is a huge chasm in talent between 160 and 168, Sergio Martinez notwithstanding. Golovkin has made a career of beating up on journeymen level fighters and, in the event of a move to 168, I would expect that trend to continue up until his promoter is ready to cash out. The reason being, IMO, is that the top 154lb'ers are all looking for a Mayweather fight. Why move to 160 when Floyd might come calling seeing as he holds a title @ 154...
Funny how the same haters keep saying the same things, and make new threads to say it in. Old hat at this point. As for 154/160 there are some who move around but I think there are a few reasons we see a lot of 154lbers stay put. One is 154 success can hypothetically lead to a FMJ fight. Another is non-US fighters dominate 160, which complicates matchmaking and TV broadcasting for US premium channels for top fights especially with JCCjr out of the 160 picture - or did until GGG came to make his career stateside. That and MW is just a lot tougher. Top MW and jrMW tend to step into the ring at about the same weight, those who have the power and chin to hang at 160 tend to stay there for better stamina - those who dont cut weight to 154 where they arent quite as over matched. As for Quillan... I like KC, but hes just not top shelf yet. He is rated a lot lower by other fighters/promoters and GBP has super deep pockets but instead of getting top fighters in the ring, his handlers picked a guy who lost to GGG when Golovkin had the flu. Which turned out to be a pretty close scrape actually. Rosado is a decent fighter though, but I think hes better at 154 - he has the chin but not the skin to handle MW power.
