I've heard several arguments against this. Ray Mercer said MMA was so much harder than Boxing. While others have said that Boxing was harder. So, which one was harder and why? Also tell me why and describe why. Me personally I think MMA is harder. The reason why I say that is because you have to learn BJJ, Wrestling, Karate, and other disciplines. Just like Pro Wrestling is harder than MMA and Boxing because in Pro Wrestling you have to know how to sell and other things. Anyway this is my LAST thread for a while. I know you guys are SICK of me posting threads. So, for now on I will be replying to other peoples threads. Also I want to learn stuff on Boxing History, so where can I learn that at? Is there a thread on here where I can read that up? Hope you guys had a good New Years.
Ray Mercer got into MMA when he was old and shot, of course he says it was harder. I think MMA is harder btw, many ways to lose. But boxing is more fun to watch by far for me. MMA guys are very sloppy but that's because they can't just focus all their training in one area.
If MMA is so hard, how come guys can come over with litle to no experience and become world champ in 1 or 2 years. You'll never see some **** like that in boxing.
Ya this^ Except I think being extremely good at one thing relies more on athleticism, therefore making boxing more of a sport. MMA takes skills I agree, but boxing will always reign supreme in my mind. Plus I'd rather watch guys who are awesome at one thing then some ***gots who suck peen0r at 10 things.
Ray Mercer had the skills to knock out Tim Sylvia the former UFC Heavyweight Champion. Even though Syvia held that belt when there weren't any decent Heavyweights in the UFC. Also I think MMA is harder too, but I respect Boxing.
You can train MMA for 2 years out of college in your 20s and become a champ. You can train boxing your entire life since 5 years old, have 100's of amateur fights and not even touch a legit belt in boxing. It's not even close, boxing is 1000000000000000000000000000x harder. The talent pool is 100000000000000000000000x deeper with talent from almost every corner of the planet trying to make that mayweather money.
And that's why it's harder. It's harder to remain as champ because you have defend all kinds of attacks. Also if you get knocked down, no ref will save you. Imaging all the champs in boxing that got knocked down and then won, take away the rule and let the guy that knocked them down follow it up and beat the **** out of them before they can recover, and that's just punches. Again, too many things to defend in MMA.
Yeah boxing is much harder for the reasons stated above. Another thing, in MMA upsets are much easier to pull off since you can basically get a lucky submission or have something extremely fluky happen. That doesn't happen often in boxing. How many times has there been an inferior fighter who landed a haymaker to KO the champ? Rahman maybe? We all saw what happened in the rematch.
defend against guys that are sucky at all of the attacks. The boxing in MMA is **** poor The kickboxing in MMA is **** poor The wrestling in MMA is **** poor (compared to Olympic wrestlers) The jiu jitsu in MMA is **** poor (compared to high level BJJ only guys) and to top it all off, the overall athleticism in MMA is **** poor. A bunch of roided stiff guys that got picked last in gym class LOL
This just means that boxers are better, not that the sport itself is harder. Boxing has been a legitimate sport for very long and the focus is only on punching. Some people have gotten extremely good at it. MMA guys don't have that level of skill, that doesn't mean the sport itself is not harder. Honestly, it's not even a opinion, MMA is boxing plus more, it's easier to be elite at just boxing than elite at everything, it's not an opinion. What's harder? Be as good as Ray Robinson at boxing or be as good as Ray Robinson at boxing and at the same time be just as good at grappling, kicking, etc? It's a no brainer.
Which is tougher Kung-Fu or Muay Thai? The question, like the OPs, makes no sense. Is the question 'which fighter would win in a fight without rules'? I'm not trying to be a twat - I'm genuinely curious as to what the OP meant. Which training is hardest..most intense? which requires the most physical resilience - the most mental fortitude?
Boxing is harder, as in it is literally a science. To perfect, and I MEAN perfect, a jab or a left hook is serious skill that takes years to hone. MMA is tougher. You try taking a few kicks or having your arm/leg broken and get back to me about Boxing being tougher...
