Rumours very strong according to some folk in Oz who believe Geale has the tools to beat GGG....... Anyway Murray or Fletcher to face the winner. Highly doubt Geale can pull it off.

Good fight. I think Geale/GGG is an acceptable fight, especially if winner faces WBA interim bout winner. Thats finally a respectable schedule. Would also play well if HBO can market into something of a mini-eliminator for Sergio PPV bout should he get past Cotto.

I keep thinking back to the Barker-Geale fight, then Barkers fight with Sturm which tells me early GGG KO too!!

    Would be Golovkin's best win...

Yeah, so many people have ducked GGG, I'll believe it when it's announced. We can hope. I'd probably say Golovkin KO5.

I am still a bit dubious... but after thinking about it, I think it really might happen. I always suspected that bringing up Kirkland bout was mostly a negotiating tactic (and possible HBO-friendly fallback plan).

Geale really stepped in it when his promoter apparently did not bother to tell him they turned down a GGG fight a couple weeks prior to Geale calling out GGG. Talk about embarrassing. (And I do think thats probably what happened.. I might not think Geale beats GGG, but he is still a skilled and proud fighter). At this juncture unless he gets a 7 figure payday or title shot elsewhere to point at as a legit reason to not make the Golovkin fight, he pretty much becomes a laughingstock.

Geale would be a decent fight for 3G, especially if the winner fights Murray.

hope it will happen this year.

    from boxing.scene:

"Promoter Gary Shaw has advised ***********.com that former champion Daniel Geale (29-2, 15KOs) is ready to sign a contract to face WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25KOs).

Earlier this year, Geale passed on a fight with Golovkin in favor of a bigger payday, which also gave him the opportunity to avenge his first career loss to Anthony Mundine.

Geale avenged his defeat to Mundine and then came back in August and lost a close twelve round split decision, and his IBF middleweight title, to Darren Barker. Since that loss, Barker was knocked out in two rounds by Felix Sturm, who Geale defeated in September 2012.

Golovkin returns to action on February 1st in Monte Carlo, where he defends his titles against Osumanu Adama."

"Daniel Geale is ready, willing, and able to sign a contract to fight Gennady Golovkin on HBO. After Golovkin has his fight in Monte Carlo, Geale is ready to fight him on HBO. Golovkin is a very good fighter, but Daniel Geale believes that he has the style to beat him,"

    from sports.talk:

"WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s) will be fighting on HBO this April against either junior middleweight James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KO’s) or former IBF 160 lb. champion Daniel Geale (29-2, 15 KO’s), according to HBO President of Sports Ken Hershman. Of course, Golovkin, 31, will need to win his next title defense on February 1st against Osumanu Adama (22-3, 16 KO’s) at the Salle des etoiles, in Monte Carlo, Monaco."

“I’d love to fight Sturm for the IBF title but would also like to fight Gennady Golovkin for the WBA title. Curtis Stevens gave Golovkin problems. He done it easy against Mathew Macklin, but again my style would be a problem for him. I have had the experience of boxing the best middleweights in the world. We boxed in the amateurs and I was never hurt but he is a great tactician. I would love to win back the WBA title again. I know I can beat Golovkin and Sturm!” said Geale.

I wonder who won that fight ?:think

This fight should happen, Geale doesn't have any other options right now.

I thought the winner of Murray-Fletcher has to fight Chudinov in May?

Geale would be a better notch on 3G's belt, his having fought top middleweights before and i hope that happens, but personally i think the kirkland fight is a little more dangerous and interesting to watch. Geale is going to run... plus most casual americans would love to see 3G knock out kirkland.

Works both ways this may be a negotiating tactic for Geale to try and get a Sturm fight which seems more likely to me.

well geale & murray aren't going to fight triple G until every other option is exhausted, that's for certain.
