I LIKE, RESPECT and SUPPORT Joe Calzaghe... BUT Sorry, NO WAY!

apart from names like Wilde & Lynch and Driscol, Welsh, Kid Lewis & Kid Berg. Fitz & LL IF they 'rightfully' belong to Britain (I don't think so), But apart from those names a few dozen more AHEAD of JOE...

One HAS to consider the OVERALL Greatness and Longievty of Len Harvey. for my money Harvey IS THEE Greatest British Boxer EVER!!!

Beat 10 world champions plus several great contenders. 1. Hopkins 2. Eubank 3. Kessler 4. Reid 5. Bika 6. Mitchell 7. Brewer 8. Lacy 9. Woodhall 10. Jones Jr, all of these guys with the exception of Jones Jr were in or near enough to their primes then he beat several top contenders like Sheika, Veit, Mtchegen etc. Which other British fighter has come close to that without being beaten?

Froch was offered the fight ducked it because there was a rematch clause. Don't bring his name up, it took him long enough to step up.

surely froch stepped up to top world title level years before joe did in terms of their respective ages.

froch certainly reached a higher level younger than joe, but joe maintained longevity longer. they both had they're strengths.

Bull****. Eubank was well past his best and would never win another bout in his career despite his two admirable performances against Carl Thompson.

Furthermore Hopkins was several years removed from his peak. That he is still performing at a high level today is testament to his greatness, but doesn;t change the fact that his peak was several years before he fought Joe.

Calzaghe was a world champion at 25 beating guys like Reid and Eubank and was at a higher standard than Froch will ever reach. Froch didn't go pro til 25 and didn't step up to title level until he was in his 30's let's not forget he was going life and death with guys like Adamu on his way up. He's only about 5 years younger than Calzaghe and didn't win a title until 11 years later.

no I am afraid you are still wrong about froch, who did pick up a major title younger than calzaghe.

and this despite turning pro very late - you only seem to have magnified carl frochs acheivements now - despite turning pro much later than joe, carl reached the top titles level years before him.

Joe was pretty good though don't get me wrong, though I cannot explain why he took till 34/35 to think about winning one of the major world titles. that is incredibly late. Joe was the very personification of the late developer that you are trying to paint him not to be.

froch has also proved he can defend major titles, which joe didn't do besides one defence against bika (still well done joe)

Wasn't Howard Eastman the Brixton bomber? An underrated and largely forgotten British fighter for some reason.

quality post :yep if people would just take a step back and take a look at the whole pie instaed of just parts of it
people still dont realize when joe fought bika bika had just moved up from middle weight with only one fight at super middle yet no one mentions this so how is that a great or defining win :huh he was not a true super middle weight at the time
