Tua was once ten pounds apart from Marciano before he lost control of his weight. It is a fact. Sure it was the beginning of his career. So what? I don't understand what you don't like about that. On an exclusive 1940s, 1950s-1960s traditional boxing training program what do you think Tua would weigh?
Yes but how many of those 65 punches were pitter patter punches? Tua liked to pitterpat before throwing the occasional powerpunch. Everybody who fought Marciano said that every punch of his was hurtful
This is how boxing gossip and hearsay of 50's, 60's and 70's morph into everlasting "facts". There are guys who grew up in the 70's who still believe to this day that Ali is the greatest and would crush a prime Tyson with ease. If scientists were to measure the force of Marciano's punch and compare it to a prime Tua's, Marciano's measurement would even in be in the same league as Tua's. Tua was a freak of nature who possessed a 49in chest and damn near 20 inch biceps, let's not even get to his calf and quad measurements, on top of that he possessed damn good hand speed for a heavyweight, so not only does Tua factually possess a much larger more muscular heavier boned body than Marciano, he may even have had the advantage in handspeed as he was one of the most explosive punchers in his division during his prime.
Where did I say that Marciano hit harder than Tua, I'm saying that Rocky put near damn it his full force into every punch he threw. David Tua never did that, he threw arm punches most of the time with the occasional full force punch. I know for a fact his punch output would be far less if he did
The left hook that Tua blasted Ruiz with had more force in it than 10 of Rocky's "near damn full force" punches combined.
Tua needed a massive combination to put Ruiz out, Rocky needed one atomic bomb to put Walcott to sleep. I know which of those punches I'd rather take.
You can take Tua's 49 inches of obese chest measurements, calf measurements and most of all his quad measurements and put them in the trash. It has nothing to do with landing a clean shot. It won't help him hit an all time great in the face with his best shot containing the full force that his massive calves and enormous quads can muster. Better fighters are harder to hit when you go up the levels. Just because you can hit one level of guy won't mean it works on the next one. Suddenly only the last inch of the punch reaches a good fighter, you are out of position, the best punch you have suddenly requires more room and time than the better fighter will allow you. That extra second of instinctive timing is lacking. Compromises are made and in order to land anything at all less force is used. All that power, all that strength is not worth anything unless it can land cleanly against elite fighters.
Yeah he's REALLY gonna have a hard time landing on a much smaller, slower, less powerful guy who will be standing right in front of him trying to brawl, this fight would look as if a senior in high school is bullying and brutalizing an elementary school 3rd grader! Or an angry drunk husband laying down physical punishment on his out of control Italian girlfriend Roxie Marciana old school Samoan style!
What did Tua weigh when he was 24 , the age Marciano was when he turned pro ? You are obviously one of the "flat earthers". As such there's no point debating with you further.
You see, this is where it starts to get embarrassing. When did Tua knock out a great fighter or a currently rated elite fighter? What makes you think Marciano was slower? He was fast enough to instinctively land clean punches, effectively on even the best class of fighter where as Tua did not. Tua was brave, had qualities that I can aknowledge but ultimately his career panned out to prove at the best level he was one dimentional and always fell short at top level. Marciano was a counter mauling presure fighter. Two handed power and proven. Awkward to hit cleanly by more proven accurate top level punchers than Tua. Marcianos cleanest blows were powerful enough to produce serious periods of trauma and unconsciousness right through the levels.
Answer the question. What DO YOU think Tua, who was once 201 as a pro, would have weighed if he stayed on a 1940s, 1950-1960s strict boxing training programme?
2 words, SIZE and STYLE! Byrd and Lewis survived Tua because they used their superior boxing STYLES and jabbed and pedaled their BMX's harder than Lance Armstrong did at the World Cycling Championships. Does Marciano have the size to fight on even terms with one of the thickest most muscular heavy boned heavyweight boxing specimens of all time who outweigh him by 40 pounds? Does Marciano possess the boxing skills and style and personality to put his ego aside and jab and run from Tua all night for a decision victory?
