Boxing Scene Northwestern Europe 1998-2004 Super Middleweight Title holder 21 Title defenses IBF. Sven Ottke 1998-2007 Super Middleweight Title holder 21 Title defenses WBO. Joe Calzaghe Both retired undefeated without bothering to even try to unify, hurt both legacy...A decade of Co-existence in NW Europe, 7years of it prime time title defenses....Give me a break :verysad Had they fought I would have ranked the lower in the same place as he'. Now & the winner Definite 168 GOAT Avoidance should not be encouraged, GOAT of division means you go out of your way seeking fights and cleaning up...In Ottke/Calzaghe case they didn't have to look hard for this both lived in Northwestern Europe, that's like a fight inside the state of Texas
What exactly is your point? Are you claiming Calzaghe ducked Ottke? I seem to remember Calzaghe fighting Lacy and Kessler for belts. Has anyone else unified all the belts at 168 to be considered the greatest SMW ever?
I am the biggest fan of title defenses, review my threads on Chris John and iceman71 replies My problem is that Calzaghe on Ottke were like Wladimir & Vitali...In the same freaking division, in the exact time, with the exact 21 Title defenses...they were happy to be half champions...At least in Chris John case he didn't have a Filibino or Thai with 18 title defenses sharing the championship for a decade Kessler got beat by Ward & Froch...Lacy barely escaped with a close decision vs past his prime journeymen Omar Sheika...just before he was fed to Calzaghe...Old Roy, Broken Taylor and journeymen Dhafir Smith all beat Lacy...big deal Calzaghe wrote his own script...it didn't have a dramatic part where he goes to Germany and KTFO Ottke, cause he knew thats what GREATs do...and he was happy with being undefeated...Only himself to blame...I think he is satisfied with a HOF status, Wales hero & #4 Super Middleweight ATG is something to be proud off :think
Good for you. So what? It's two stubborn guys unwilling to bow to the other. Lacy and Kessler and Hopkins were much tougher propositions than Ottke so I doubt Joe ducked Sven So what? You were going on about trying to beat the other champs in your division and win the other belts which is what Joe was doing vs Lacy and Kessler. Who has unified more belts? His own script involved beating better guys than Ottke (Kessler) and going to the USA to fight Hopkins at LHW. Froch, Jones Jr and Ward (the guys ahead of Calzaghe on your list) didn't do more than Joe at SMW. They didn't go to the other guys country to take their belt or unify more than Joe etc.
so eltirado tried to make an argument against Joe being the number 1 by contradicting himself and being a hypocrite? yeah, you're a man of serious intellect. give this guy a bone.
Why are you so aggressive? :rofl For the record I am white, but I can see why you would want to use race. Yes many did have Hopkins winning, and when Ward loses sure it will hurt his legacy, but unlike Calzaghe he is fighting the best at their best. And Dawson challenged him for his 168 title so it's not like he dragged him down...
Oh and I hate Hopkins cause he is a racist piece of so don't act like I'm lobbying for him out of love.
Calzaghe avoided no man. Kessler was the best and Joe fought him at his best. That's as good as any of Wards wins.
Ah well, some of the biggest names on Floyd Mayweather Jr's resume weren't at their best. Same for Bernard Hopkins and even Andre Ward.
I'm glad you pointed that out to me, but Mayweather is irrelevant to the 168 division, nor do I care about him. As for Ward and Hopkins I agree, everyone does, I think both have better resumes than Calzaghe. Why is it such a huge deal to you guys that I, the TS and others don't have Calzaghe first?
Ward fought them at their best? :huh Dawson was drained to ****. Abraham was coming off two defeats and had zero confidence. Kessler had clearly lost a few steps since the Calzaghe fight, hadn't fought any of the top guys leading into the Ward fight, and was cheated like crazy as well. Bika hadn't fought in 18 months. Miranda was finished. so it's more like, he fought them at their worst. clearly. :deal
