Ratings beats money every time because money follows ratings, ratings don't follow money. If Ward doesn't get his ratings up to his pay level, his purses will decrease. You must by a teenager with no business experience, so I guess it's not your fault that you are ignorant on the matter.

IF/When Golovkin starts making Ward type money then you will have an argument. Until then, you have shi'ite...

Isn't it funny how when the parrots can't argue using logic or facts they default back to "Squawk, resume! Squawk, resume!"?

IF/WHEN Ward starts getting the ratings Golovkin has gotten, you will have an argument. Until then, let the adults discuss business practices while you work on high school Western Civ.

Money follows ratings, ratings don't follow money. Do you think Mayweather is the A-side because of his talent or resume? No, he's the A-side because he brings the crowd (i.e. The money) be it television or arena. Sure, talent and resume is part of that, but talent doesn't equal butts in chairs. Look at Rigondeaux. Great talent, horrible ratings. As of now, GGG brings more people than Ward. Ward is perhaps a better fight, and has a better resume, but that doesn't equate to A-side. Ratings and sales do.

The truth is, if his handlers were that confident in him beating Ward, they would make the fight happen and secure Golovkins biggest fight, and biggest possible win for him outside of Mayweather Jr thats possible for him out of any fight below light heavy. Beating Ward in early 2014 would be Golovkins fastest way to a bigger name, higher ranking, larger paydays, and the ability to start dictating terms.

But imo, this is just the political way of saying they dont want the fight.

And fair enough, imo. Golovkin shouldnt be looking at 168 anyways.

But the entire premise of this thread is that GGG's trainer is saying they don't want to fight Ward NOW because GGG is not on Ward's level in terms of ratings, money, or popularity.

So, why are all of you guys trying to argue otherwise? If you are correct, that GGG is more popular than Ward, then GGG's trainer's statement is just an excuse to duck Ward.

Are you saying GGG is NOT ready for Ward physically, mentally, or talent wise?

Actually, its pretty ironic you would call other people names when you do not even realize that the ability to generate money is what ultimately determines income potential. The opinions of forum trolls regarding skills or anything else dont even begin to play into it.

GGG already has *surpassed* Ward in terms of TV viewership AND gate money. It has become obvious that these

cause you a great deal of unhappiness. This is unfortunate. But no matter how much you gnash your teeth, troll these threads, call people names or call Stevens a no-hoper the fact is more people already want to tune in to a GGG fight than a Ward fight.

Now, I like Ward and would even pay to watch him fight. I even favor him to win a matchup with GGG. But unless he gets his business straightened out, starts fighting more, and putting on fights that people want to see, it is inevitable that his drawing power will be on the decline. If Golovkin keeps putting on entertaining fights, even if a few forum folks loudly take issue, he is going to continue to get higher ratings and more people will pay even more to show up live.

If you think having a higher consensus p4p rating than GGG will somehow magically keep Ward at a higher level of income and negotiating power, then I suggest you go have a talk with Guillermo Rigondeaux and ask how that has worked out for him.

GGG superfans/defenders write the longest posts in ESB.

Do they come from same IP-address? :think

I'm saying simply that television ratings and ticket sales were higher in GGG's last fight compared to Ward's. That means more people came to see GGG (even though many say Stevens was a bum) on TV or arena. So, either Abel was being respectful to Andre's status as a fighter or was ignorant of the latest ratings. Both GGG and Ward will increase their ratings and audience draw this year, I hope, but many say Ward is boring (I don't.) Who knows who will be the higher draw when the two fight, but as of now, today, GGG is drawing more people, despite Ward getting paid 5 times as much. Boxing is, in part, entertainment, and perhaps people (especially the casuals) think GGG is more entertaining. Looking at the numbers in their last fights, either Ward was way overpaid or GGG was way underpaid. I would argue both. If you have the ratings, the money will follow, so GGG's pay is moving upwards, and that's the direction you want your pay moving, not down. You want rising ratings, not falling; always. Money will follow.

GGG is ready mentally, physically, and skill wise, but moving divisions isn't something you do until you're ready, and a premature fight with Ward for resume's sake isn't the reason. Both sides envision this fighting being a huge event, monetarily. Much larger than it would be if they fought next month. Ward has lost some momentum with his long layoff and is battling some "boring" critiques. GGG is still seeking some top MW's to validate himself as a top MW. They both have work to do before they fight and it's smart business for both sides to wait on the fight until next year.

I only post under one user. Juveniles are thick of head and need things spelled out, but I'm sure you're not one of those. Right?

P.S. I defend Mayweather and many others, as well, against idiots. Maybe there are just more idiots attracted to GGG posts than others.

Well, you're new to the sport of boxing [Join Date: Nov 2013] but don't worry, eventually you learn to appreciate less known fighters as well. :good

This is the truth in boxing. People pay for entertainment value. Arturo Gatti, Donaire, Carl Froch, Mike Tyson, and now GGG, these are the types of fighters people want to see. I prefer to watch masterful boxing performances over one-sided beat downs, but action(violence) sells.

Ward, outside of his loyal fan base, will always need to be matched against action packed fighters. Guys like GGG can fight anyone. The only no-hoper is Ward if he doesn't start talking trash. Trash talk and theatrics is the only way that guys like Mayweather, Ward, Hopkins, Rigondeaux can become household names. They must become villains, create an alter ego. Unfortunately for Ward's bank account(relative to other elite boxers) he is the epitome of good guy.

Ward himself said exactly the same thing tho - it's a good fight but one for later.

Right now GGGs fighting for 500K, Ward for 3 or 4 times that AFAIK, but GGGs popularity amongst casual fans is growing fight on fight. A year or two down the line brings both a far better payday provided GGG keeps getting the exciting wins.
