I wonder how a dude like Hakuho Sho would do if he put the gloves on and went some rounds with a middle of the road heavyweight. Sumo wrestlers are some legit athletes and the top guys would have the combat sports mentality of any fighter. I would love to see one transition to MMA and just toss dudes around like nothing.

This ERA is too strong for Ishida.

I am assuming he is already 200+ and he wants to have a sneaky speed advantage, If he beats Fuji I want to see him get right into the deeper pool for a title eliminator :)

Didn't Ishi have a reputation as being feather fisted until he put Kirkland on his arse? How's that gonna play out with the big boyz?

Well, its by far the worst division in terms of talent pool.

But Ishida was a journeyman at best, 160lbs or 200lbs+

Mendoza did the same move, lots of Heavyweight journeyman started at Middleweight, some at Welterweight...

Years just began and we've already had upsets, controversy and crazy stories...2014 really has started brilliantly, hasn't it?

    :admin

He only had OK punch resistance at 154. (dropped by Kim, dropped midway and hurt repeatedly in the championship rounds by Rigoberto Alvarez...although he did get robbed in that one in Nayarit, banked enough to deserve the nod but for home cooking...)

Forget Kyotaro, Zuri Lawrence could probably emerge from retirement and tap him unconscious at HW.

Or maybe, he got strategic advice from tall men in glasses in the far east...to follow through the steps of Pacman, maybe they share the same genetic makeup. It's a slim chance but worth the try, Pacman chin and power improved with better nutrition and matchmaking :smoke

Is that all it takes? :blood

They aren't hard to impress at the JBC.

Hell, if all it took here was to put on an impressive showing in sparring to get a crack at the national title I would go ham on that. What do you have to lose? :yep

Of course we have multiple iterations of national title here, being a larger country. You've got the NABA, currently held by Tarver...or the USBA, held by Amir Mansour. Either way, compete in one sparring match impressively enough to get ranked and then beat a man in his forties - and you're national champ? Hell yeah, sign me up. :p

    Pacman never leapfrogged four divisions.

Closest successful leap I can think off is Vinny Paz :D
