Is GGG being overrated?

Two things;

First, his resume doesn't say he's the best MW.

Second, 160 is a shi'ite division...

 

Max Kellerman overrates Golovkin's English by asking "level 2" questions to a level 1 guy who can barely order himself a bigmac at McD's... here's a quote from a recent interview (credit: Fightnews.com):

Who do you think beats him at 160?

 

First, resume isn't everything. Ward beat Kessler when Kessler had a better resume and Macklin who has fought Martinez and GGG said GGG is better.

Second, no it isn't.

 

Two things:

First, lawl at "resume" mentions. The fact that his resume does not already put him as undisputed 160 kingpin.. is... wait for it...... why fans want to see fights at 160 with people whom victories over would help establish said credential.

Second, all things are relative. Ok 160 might be what you say. But with the exception of FMJ fighting under 154 auspices on occasion.. 160 is still worlds better than 154, which is mostly comprised of natural 160 pounders who dont have the skills or attributes to thrive at 160, and so they spend all night praying than FMJ will invite them to drain themselves down to 152 to get whooped on for a big payday.

Notice how he said "it's the same as last year"? Last year's first stop was a C fighter in Monte Carlo, this year it's a C-, D+ guy also in Monte Carlo.

So, we should get an aggressive 154 pounder in the spring (Rosado --> Kirkland), a top 10 MW in the summer (Macklin --> Geale or Murray) and a wild card, hopefully Sergio, in Nov/Dec 2014. Move up in 2015!

Call me when Golovkin comes off of his "Bum of the Month" tour and fights somebody with a pulse.

I could make the same argument about 160 - that it's filled with guys who are natural super middles who don't have the skills or attributes to thrive at 168.

That said, 154 is deeper than 160. Way deeper. Is this even up for debate?

That's right, Ward beat Kessler because Ward got in the ring with the top competition @ 168 and beat them ALL.

Yeah, up for big debate. The only people who think 154 is deeper than 160 are US folks who are exposed to all the extra 154 spotlight due to the fact that FMJ occasionally picks 154 pounders for big paydays, and since GBP has had a lot of 154 pounders a lot of them get showcased on premium cable.

Most people think exposure equals ability, but that is not the case. Especially when most of the top 160 guys arent based in the Americas. A guy of "no hoper Stevens" level would clean out 154 without batting an eye. Rosado was a top guy at 154 even though hes a natural MW, got pummeled when he moved up as just one example.
