Even if you leave the psychological and motivational issues to one side, what remains wasn't exactly blue-chip stock. While he wasn't featherfisted, he wasn't a heavy-handed guy who would intimidate people with his power. He didn't appear to be physically strong, particularly for his size, and his chin was less than sturdy. Even if you gave him a strong will, it's not like he had the tools to overwhelm everyone. His potential was probably limited to being an awkward contender capable of springing an upset or two at world level. I think people fell into the trap of "Olympic Champion" = "Future of the Heavyweight Division", rather than looking objectively at his strengths.
his head size. if your feet aren't on the ground at least some of the time you wont be successful in the long term.
His head wasn't right. Every time he got caught he seemed to freeze and be afraid of getting hit again. But, he won an Olympic gold, he was European champion and fought for the world title. There have been worse careers.
Well... we could argue about that. He certainly stepped into the ring in a world title fight, but 'fought'?
His biggest mistake was believing his own hype and signing that BBC contract. He should have signed to Warr3n. However, British boxing has a lot to thank him for.
to be fair, he never fought one so we will never know, but its hard to see him overcoming such big opponents. with his limited skills and now ironically he is the future of hw boxing, in that hw boxing has faded into fake, aged histrionics and smokescreens for lack of ability that were typical of Fraudley. Harrison is a typical HW of today.
I've only seen him look genuinely confident twice. In the Williams rematch when he looked impressive and in the opening stanzas of the first sprott fight which he was dominating right up until he got KTFO.
As much as he frustrated and annoyed the **** out of me with his attitude and behaviour at the time, by the end of his career i actually felt sorry for the big guy and would have liked to have seen him go out with a bit of glory but never mind. To those who say he was a joke, no heart etc I said the same years ago but when it comes to the crunch, he was Olympic champion, British Champion and Euro Champion........thats a lot to be proud of in my opinion and many a fighter would love that kind of career. As for the no heart, i cant say that about any guy who laces up the gloves and steps into the ring, no matter what level they fight at. A certain level of respect should be given despite all the controversy.
