Do you think Deontay Wilder is very good and will be the next heavyweight champion and perhaps even a great heavyweight?

Or do you rate him as just another top 10-15 heavyweight contender, who will do okay but lose against the 3-5 best HWs?

Or do you think Wilder is just a hype job who will lose when he fights a decent top 20-25 opponent??

Wilder is ranked #3 WBC without ever fighting anyone even nearly ranked. There is a video of Haye staggering Wilder in sparring, made Wilder look like a drunk. Vlad knocked Wilder down with a jab, then beat him from one side of the ring to the other. So, how did Wilder get his ranking??????????$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$??????????????

Wilder does not deserve his ranking at ALL. As for the topic of the thread, it's hard to read because he hasn't fought anyone with a pulse yet. He does has a tremendous right hand and great height and reach. I think he would have a puncher's chance against most but I also feel there is a reason he is so protected. He may win a belt someday with his good mgmt but I doubt he will ever string the consitency together to be a dominant or memorable champ. Someone will tap his chin at somepoint and his 0 will go against the best.

Yes, we'll know more about him when he fights a decent, durable opponent.

As others have said, it's nearly impossible to read because his opposition level is so low(which might be telling in and of itself after all this time). He looks very raw on technique often, but has patches where he throws a nice straight right. His fights end early so no idea about his stamina, etc.

wilder is a big dude and he's athletic. he has speed and 1 punch ko power. but guess what i dont think he's the next great heavy weight. he just started boxing and is learning on the job. any other weight class besides heavy he might have got seth mitchell treatment. ill reserve judgment until further notice. id like to see him fight fury.

I'll form an opinion when he fights someone half decent at the very least. I know the division lacks anyone worth mentioning but there are fighters out there better than the guys he has fought. I'd like to see him fight Chisora, Thompson, Price(yes, even Price), Solis, Adamek or anyone in that level before forming an opinion.

All I can say now is that he looked horrific even against Harrison, specifically when he had him hurt. He was swinging like a club fighter there.

It's hard to say. Wilder needs to fight a boxer that is recognized as a top 10 heavyweight. The fact that he hasn't done that yet speaks ****ing volumes, considering he is 31 wins with 31 ko's.

The more I think about it, **** Wilder. This is getting ridiculous. 28 years old, claims he has all the skills, step up.

Windmill Wilder hasn't fought anyone decent yet, so nobody, including himself knows how he will do against a top 10 ranked HW.

I voted the 'contender/3-5' option but I think he'll lose to most decent top15 fighters, depending on their strengths and weaknesses.

As a fact, lack of knowledge about him. What we have is

    - 30 fights with weak opponents (but 1st round KO with former champion Liakhovich)
    - he hasn't been in a ring for more than 4 rounds
    - he's olympic bronze medalist though he started boxing only being 20 years old
    - a video where he was knocked out while amateur fighting with a russian
    - 10 seconds video sparring with David Haye, who had no troubles in getting in close distance
    - gossips that he knocked David out during that sparring (came from one of Fury's insiders as far as I recall)
    - gossips (personally i don't know where it came from) of him being knocked out by Wlad's jab during sparring
    - he was troubled at the very beggining by Nicolai Firta who turned turbopressing-mode on
    - he has been knocked down once but there's no video

So I think it's really hard to tell but what is obvious - he had a tremendous power punch, he's tall, he's not slow.. he'll be a tough opponent for anybody. But i can't fortell his future any far as that.

And this is a question that you have to wonder why? His team have seen him sparring top 10 guys in the gym. Sure sparring isn't the same as a fight with the headgear and bigger gloves but its still an indicator. They must surely have seen worrying signs that have caused them to play safe..otherwise what other reasons can there be? Trying to get a shot without beating a couple of top 10 guys isn't right to me - its trying to con your way to a shot. Still either way he can't keep on fighting cans forever...he has to step up sometime then we'll all see! I do consider him in with a chance vs a top guy simply because he has 1 punch fight ending power and he's not slow of hand. If he lands clean and flush on anyone they could go to sleep. But seeing his crudeness makes me think even if he gets past a couple of top guys he won't be able to keep it up for long before his technical shortcomings and probable suspect chin is checked. The bubble WILL burst eventually...it always does.
