Someone explain why Ray Leonard is ranked so highly?

Well, what I typed was completely accurate, but it didn't occur to me that you wouldn't understand the point. Leonard DIDN'T demand that Hearns drop down from light-heavyweight because they were both welterweights. So if Hearns HAD BEEN weight-drained (which he denied), that would only be his own fault.

Like I said " prone to exaggeration " to make a rather childish point.

The words Hearns, Leonard, and Light Heavyweight, have never been connected anywhere other than in your somewhat feeble imagination.

I think it's been fairly well established that Hearns came in lighter than anticipated. He was supposed to come in at a smidgen under 147, and when he came in at 145 there was considerable consternation on the part of Hearns, who shot an angry look at Emmanuel Steward when he saw his weight. It was a gross miscalculation on the part of the Hearns camp.

I'm actually a little bit surprised that Tommy has not made a bigger deal of it over the years.

That is not to take anything away from Leonard though. He fought a great fight and pulled it out when he had to. It's certainly not his problem if Hearns came in lighter than he anticipated.

I do indeed think that Leonard was a great fighter, but where I'd actually rank him all-time is something I have never really thought about. I do tend to judge his career based on what he did prior to his first retirement, with the comeback to fight Hagler and his subsequent career after that more as the cherry on top than anything.

In fairness fists, as I stated Tommy is far too much of a gentleman to complain, and take away from the other guy. I can't remember exactly his comments after their S / Middle fight in which he was genuinely robbed, but I know he didn't make a fuss, and just took it in his stride.

On another thread Tommy is quoted as having a lot of respect for Floyd Mayweather, saying he thinks he would outbox him.

Tommy is just not the sort of guy to say " I'd knock him out ", even though we all know if he landed the kind of shots that he hit Duran or Hagler with he certainly would do.

Then quit crying about poor "weight-drained" Hearns as if he wasn't a reigning world champion in the exact same weight class as Leonard.

You're the one making it sound like Leonard demanded he drop 30 pounds or something.

Overrated ... Beats Benitez, Hearns,Duran and Hagler, That right there is Hall of fame worthy.Plus how hard he had to fight to beat Hearns in a MAJOR title fight! And beating Benitez when at the time, was no certain thing at all. Beating Hagler(albeit close and somewhat controversial) was huge ! Coming out of retirement (a lengthy one at that) and going right after a very well established champ ? Seriously, who does that ? He may have not have had many fights over his career, but he had quality ones and he cam up big when he needed too... Losses to Norris and Camacho he was well used up by then. SRL would give ANY of the ATG`s major problems, the only one I see him coming up short against is THE undisputed king, Robinson.

Foxy, great post ! Hearns (who could give PBF and today`s fighters some lessons on class and dignity) doesn`t have to stoop to boasts and bragging. He let his nuclear right hand do his talking for him. And when he lands one of the rights hands on PBF that he used to crack Duran`s anvil of a chin,no count is necessary...

Right guys, that right hand was insane ! I remember the sound of it landing and the way Duran`s head twisted. You just knew it was over...

No dickhead the weight demand was against Lalonde.

Now once again for the sake of your ******edness. DID TOMMY HEARNS EVER FIGHT AGAIN AT 147 AFTER THE LEONARD FIGHT IN SEPTEMBER 1981?

A SIMPLE YES OR NO WILL SUFFICE.

Then if you are a good boy, I'm sure someone more used to dealing with window lickers like you will explain why it is that quite a lot of fighters increase their weight as they get older, particularly if they intend to carry on for a further 25 years, as Hearns did.

    you DO exagerrate alot Lobo

besides, whose falt that Tommy was weight drained s irrelevent. the important thing is that his late round stamina was affected and becuz of that, history was changed

Had it been Terry in there with Ray, Tn wouldve outmanuvered N outslicked Ray for an easy UD

    No, but Terry sure did

shouldnt leave yourself so wide open

    Benitez? He was F***ing slow!

    legs spread wide, little mobility

who the F*** was Benitez anyways? NOTHING

it's like I been saying, all u fans give imaginary status to Benitez and now Lalonde

Norris would smack that ***** up en route to easy UD. probably be one of his easiest defenses
