First of all, this being a PPV in the first place is a total joke and it will be yet another PPV that I will be gladly pirating. I will not pay for subpar matchups and neither should you. This is clearly an attempt by Canelos team to follow the Pacquiao/Mayweather blueprint. The first sign was that he wanted to originally fight a shot Cotto (who in turn decided to fight a Sergio that he believes is past prime)

Angulo is a plodder and not that good, but this (IMO) will look similar to Cotto/Margarito 1. Canelo has stamina issues and can be rocked. If Angulo doesn't shoot his load like he did against Mandingo, he will finish Canelo in 9 rounds. Canelo is a much better boxer, but gassing out in 6 rounds at age 22?? That is terrible.

My prediction is that Canelo gets Broner'd.

Agreed, I hope it tanks just to prove the point.

Canelo isn't going to lose. Angulo is easy to hit.

Really in the end the only head-and-shoulders better fights out there are Lara and Molina and Lara isn't happening because he's too good. If nothing else Angulo poses more of a knockout chance than either Lara or Molina, putting Lara down solid twice himself.

I think it's a solid fight. Alvarez should be the big favorite and I'd be surprised if he lost, but Angulo is a tough night out for anyone as he has proven in every fight win or lose.

Really quick to chime in about stamina... I do agree that if Angulo sticks around, the way the fight will likely go, Alvarez should be spent based off what we've seen before from him. However, I did think Alvarez showed good stamina late against Mayweather as he'd have been spent soon after the first half if he had poor stamina.

If Alvarez loses to Angulo that would be crazy. He signed a 3 fight PPV contract with Golden Boy for 2014, so that would be devastating to have him headline 2 more PPV's after back to back defeats.

A lot of great points here. I do agree it is a solid fight... but no where near PPV territory. I don't think Angulo is garbage, but he isn't a dynamic fighter. He comes to win and puts better pressure than Trout (Sorry, throwing 900 pitty pat jabs isn't pressure) and Angulo is a legit 154 with real power. Canelo eeked by Trout (I thought the solid shots and the KD won over volume punching) and I think Angulo matches up better even though he is slower. I'm certainly not going to "guarantee" an Angulo win, but I think it is a bad matchup for Canelo.

I'm surprised this is on PPV. It should be on Mayweather's undercard or on the undercard of Broner-Maidana II. Alvarez vs Angulo isn't PPV material.

I am surprised they aren't doing some sort of Alvarez/Angulo + Maidana/Broner II "co main event" billed PPV...

And then the rumored undercard is Leo Santa Cruz vs. Mijares, Alvarez's big bro vs. Omar Figueroa, and Arakawa vs. (I forget, good but not big name if I remember?)... LSC vs. Mijares is a totally legit fight but the other two, I dunno, I'd suspect better as Golden Boy has been on point with PPV undercards of late.

I think GB are testing how Alvarez would do in a PPV of his own after all the attention from the Mayweather fight, sadly they're picking an opponent who's also coming off a loss to Lara(who I hope Alvarez fights after Angulo). A solid undercard won't save this card when the main event/poster isn't good enough.

It's not ppv based on fighter momentum, it's based on the fact that Alvarez is a rock star in this sport who brings the masses no matter what. That and Angulo is still a crowd pleaser who most fans consider as a must watch type fighter.

Thats exactly how I thought of it Cotto/Margarito I

Kirkland hit Angulo with everything and Angulo managed to get stopped on his feet unless Canelo shows some super power we havent seen then I think Angulo walks through him and stops him by the 9th

If Canelo's stamina wasnt a problem he would batter Angulo but I think Canelo will gas early from the pressure

I don't see Canelo losing this fight. Angulo is tough but he's not in Canelo's class.

I feel Canelo isn't exciting enough and this a chance to prove himself, if he doesn't generate exciting fights I feel like his marketability is going to go downhill because he isn't a villain like figure such as mayweather
