Artur Szpilka vs. Bryant Jennings

So compare Jennings' response on whether he would want to fight Wilder or Perez next and you'd see the difference. Jennings was totally ambivalent and gave the old "my promoter ________" line. The point I'm trying to make is that if successful against Jennings on HBO, Szpilka's door will be busted wide open and I think he will want to make good HW fights we've craved for so long, instead of doing the bum du jour that leads to the K2 mismatch circus.

 

Szpilka's willingness and in fact eagerness to not be matched softly is admirable, definitely.

 

I'm very much in agreement.

 

Szpilka should do what Wilder is doing, fight all winos for the alley, have 100% KO ratio, then get ranked for not fighting anyone even nearly ranked. Szpilka can't win a decision in America and he should know that. I think he might lose, but I do admire his courage, Wilder would not fight Chisora, Thompson, Fury or Jennings.....................Jennings would knock Wilder out...........

If he gets screwed by a bad decision, his stock still goes up. Undefeated records are over rated.

 

Szpilka made this fight happen. He first reached out to team Jennings via twitter volunteering to replace Wach. He then went to his promoter and told them he will not fight under there banner unless they make this fight happen.

I commend such behaviour and wish more fighters were like this.

 

Maybe maybe not. I do not agree that this is a bad fight to take. For 1 dont we want to see fighters test and push themselves? We will know exactly where he stands after this fight. Secondly what makes Jennings such a good fighter where one would avoid him? He is OK but nothing scary about him game at all.

Shaw paid for Jennings to be rated in the top 5 by 3 orgs without earning it. Jennings needs to justify such a ranking with a few big wins.

Jennings is a heavy favorite, as I think he should be. I agree that AS has good athleticism, circles well and is a nice counter puncher. I think he's a good fighter. However, I don't think he does enough to win rounds against a guy like Jennings. Jennings is also athletic, throws from angles and is busier. AS isn't going to be able to avoid BJ and will be outlanded while often moving back. Hard to win rounds like that, especially on the road.

He has a puncher's chance, but BJ is pretty good about not getting blasted cleanly enough for a 1 punch KO. Not great, but pretty good. Meanwhile, BJ's power is pretty good and he'll almost certainly land big, clean shots due to AS's carelessness. Every reason to expect a KD for Jennings. He has the output to get the TKO after a KD, for sure. See the round against Fedosov in which he was something like 52/74 power punches. If he can hang in there, this might be where AS finds his best opportunities to pull it out.

 

Good analysis, but I think Szpilka has a bit more than a punchers chance. In fact I see it like some people 50/50 fight depending on who manages to assert their style of fighting more. Szpilka is also much more speedy, athletic and flexible than your average HW.

Mike Mollo predicting Szpilka wins. Translate if you need, good analysis here. Szpilka is tough, strong, and fast. His defense is weak but he'll get up if he gets knocked down. That's the most important thing. Jennings better strap up

 

Thats because most HW's are fat fks.

Make no mistake, Bryant Jennings is a superior athlete, SUPERIOR.
In the grand scheme of things, Szpilka is a mediocre athlete.

 

"Athletic" or "Natural" abilities, "strength and conditioning" coach, those are american concepts that no one manages to explain explicitly. What do you mean exactly, that Jennings have quicker hands and feet ? Maybe. Is punching hard an athletic gift ? Is stamina part of athleticism ?
I think they match each other quite well "athletically" speaking.

 

Let's just say, who do you think would transition into other sports better, or gymnastics?
