All this talk of Sergio ducking is exaggerated. He's coming off surgery and a year of inactivity. He SHOULD take a tune-up. If he can get that and secure a big payday, and give another legendary fighter a chance to chase history, so be it. He can look into a GGG fight after that, IF he can get back to top form. In the meantime, GGG can keep knocking these guys out and building his name.

GGG main interest is Mayweather, Martinez fight is acknowledged by both...Martinez made it clear on TV he will fight GGG, now he is down at 154 for Cotto and Mayweather

At the end of the day, you can either:

make a ton of cash fighting a blown up Miguel Cotto, who 1 is good for your resume, and 2 has been beaten soundly in the past north of 150

    OR

make substantially less cash fighting a guy who has been knocking everybody he has fought out and looking like the next middleweight kingpin.

You can talk all day about "demanding the best fights", but if you were in Martinez's shoes you would be pursuing Cotto, not GGG. Even without the bonus that beating Cotto at 154 gives Sergio something to tempt Mayweather to the negotiating table.

And I'd like to highlight one earlier post stating:

"atleast GGG has knocked out some 10-15 MW's"

Rather destructive for your argument that Martinez is ducking GGG is it not? How can you duck a guy who hasn't beat a top 10 MW?

I agree that he can't get them to agree to fight him, but get in line and work your way along the path. Increase your name and give top MW's a reason to fight you - big $$$ - and then once you have done that, demand a fight with the MW champion.

Sturm = doesn't need GGG to make money
Martinez = doesn't need GGG to make money

Then all the rest - Geale, Barker, Murray - aren't being offered enough money to warrant the risk of fighting GGG, hence why you get fighters like Adama and Stevens stepping up, because they can't make the money GGG offers anywhere else. There is a direct correlation.

At the end of the day this is how they make a living, it is a business first and foremost, and that is what you have to understand.

I believe the fight happens this year and Gennady finally gets a paycheck over $350K.

GGG seems to be good but he needs to step up in competition before he can challenge ***y sergio. I think he's 2 more fights before he can challenge sergio

GGG is more than qualified...if anything...it's Martinez getting old, this fight will happen late 2014

If Mayweather accepts Martinez challenge, GGG might have to wait till early 2015...time is on GGG side, Martinez will not retire without fighting GGG

unfortunately for you fools, mayweather will not box at 154 or 160 to fulfill keyboard warriors fantasies. He has paid his dues, have any of you keyboards boxed in a total of 135 contests? if not **** off!

Martinez himself spent his prime years being ducked, and taking on hugely dangerous guys like Williams and much bigger guys like Pavlik

At close to retirement, Sergio's earned his right to avoid GGG, and try and find a couple big paydays

There's many guys you can go after for shamelessly ducking, but Martinez aint one

Mayweather is the WBA/WBC/Lineal/Ring 154lbs champion

Of course we expect him to defend his freaking belts...that's a fantasy these days? :patsch

As of jumping to 160, not necessary...but it's not hard, Oscar De LA Hoya... famously called puzzy by Mayweather...was brave enough to fight 130-160...was good enough to take Sturm belt...regardless of low quality...he did it on his own...If Oscar De La Hoya is just braver then that's just that

All boxers are brave...DLH is just apparently braver :think ...going to YouTube to watch Mayweather screaming out "you a PU$$Y" on the Golden Boy

Right, because low risk/high reward and the desire to make money is hard to understand....

I suppose the rest of the post made no sense. Though, here's another fan acting like he's in the know because he's sympathetic to big payouts and is a boxing economist. Pathetic. Cotto is also not good for anyone's resume at this point, he's a fighter that's lost all of his major fights, is shopworn and is smaller than LMW's and especially MW's.

We didn't talk about this stuff 10 years ago.:patsch

I agree with you totally. There is no other sport where the top athletes just selectively get to pick and choose their competition.

It's like Tiger Woods refusing to play in any of the major tournaments, but winning all the less competitive ones and telling everyone he's the greatest of all time.Yeah, that would go over well. :patsch:lol:
