I think many of the British writers were probably a bit more cautious about the Foreman hype and wanted more convincing- and the ones here were right. Still, Kerr was American, so they weren't all going overboard on George; he used to write for BI as well.

That sounds about right..Maybe the British saw something we didnt!:D Its still amazing to me considering Ali had celebrities, close friends, and family begging him not to fight George! But some convincing was needed...

    Mullan's observations were astonishingly accurate.

Unless we're in the poor house, a $20 bet on a 40-1 odds fight is a "go for it, its only twenty bucks!
Ali never had those odds for pete's sake.
Tooting my own horn here, I've bet $500 on two fights in my life. My wife has me reeled in on any subsequent huge wagers.
Holmes-Cooney. I simply couldn't see it going any other way.
Benitez-Duran. They'de both moved up in class and Wilfred was at his
    prime beef best.
To be honest, I won less than $500 on both fights because Larry and
Wilfred were both favored going in.

I dont think I would ever bet 500 bucks on any fight!..Especially these days with our crooked anything goes judges!

Benitez/Duran sounds like it was a good call!

I shocked nobody said this earlier. He's making this **** up. He said as much on the first page.

Southpaw: cite your sources like Mongoose did. I know you can't because you did literally zero "research" for this thread...

Before you go on about all the stuff you had to sift through, just go to your browser's history and look for the sites you visited to glean all this information.

Ive been waiting for you to hand me my ass on this one! What took you so long!? :D I did do research but all the odds were different and I chose the wrong ones lesson well learned. Since I put this thread up I went back and saw where and how I could have corrected it. It happens!

    Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Liston

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Jump to: navigation, search
The two Ali versus Liston fights for boxing's world heavyweight championship were among the most anticipated, watched and controversial fights in the sport's history. Sports Illustrated magazine named the first Clay–Liston fight (Ali had not yet changed his name from Cassius Clay) as the fourth greatest sports moment of the twentieth century.[1]
The first bout was held in February 1964 with odds as high as 49 to 1 in favor of Liston at Miami Beach, Florida,[2] and the second in May 1965 in Lewiston, Maine.
