I agree! A very difficult style to adapt to Philly! Ill admit that in Joe's prime slow starts were few and far between. And even tho you say he did start a fast pace Vs Foreman, it was very short lived! You can agree with that right? Post prime I believe starting slow may have been the least of Fraziers problems, and even though some people say (myself included) that Fraziers prime may have ended with the 71 Ali fight it still made for 2 more unforgettable fights with Ali! Dont fret tho Ali wasnt exactly the same guy after that fight either

The second fight was very forgettable.

I agree....the 2nd fight bordered on boring, and while the 3rd fight was exciting/entertaining the skill level of both guys had deteriorated to the degree that I find it nothing more than a glorified Gatti-Ward I fight.

I agree. I think I've seen that only twice. Theyre so far past it that its not worth watching.

I dont think ive seen that fight more than twice either. At some point it does get so boring you kinda feel for these guys! Just proves how much the 1st fight really took out of both fighters Dave!

Frazier, is relentless and would never stop coming. Left hook could have hurt Tyson , maybe dropped him. But, Tyson had the overall better skills and a little faster. Tyson close SD!

You dont just rush a guy like Tyson (at his best) head on unless your George Foreman.

    Frazier gets beaten very badly.

Even at the end of his career, Tyson was blowing guys away who were stupid enough to stand in front of him, see the Etienne KO.

Tubbs, a guy who had success against Tyson in the first round. Stupidly tried to fight Tyson on the inside. Sugar Ray commented that he didnt think it was a good idea to exchange punches with Tyson. A few nicely timed uppercuts later and Tubbs was doing the chicken dance.

Sorry, Frazier is not making it late into the fight, if he somehow does i dont see Tyson letting him off the hook. Tyson preyed on an opponents fear and yes i know Joe was frealess, but like Tyson says, everyone has a plan until they get hit.
Nobody traded with Tyson and made it into the second half of the fight let alone turn the fight around.

Unless you want to count the 2nd Ruddock fight. But Ruddock didnt really turn it round he just took a pounding.

The only guys who made it past the 6th round with Tyson were normally guys who endured very little damage and/or had good survival skills/defence.

This is a bad stylistic matchup for Joe. A come forward pressure fighter fighting a big puncher head on.

the only other more well known fights i can think of is Chisora/Haye and Foreman/Frazier, Hatton/Pacman.

Funny how Joe Frazier was favourite going into the Foreman fight, yet plenty of self appointed experts on the internet say he was past his prime, even though he was 29 - 0 at the time.

Cossell, who was paid, for commentating on big fights can clearly be heard saying ( Foreman / Frazier ) " Frazier is NOT a 1st round fighter " but obviously he knew fvck all, and all the internet warriors know far more.

How about trying to stick to facts as opposed to half baked opinions.

Joe was a very good fighter in his time when taking into account his limitations, and style.

However he came up against 2 guys, the 1st one didn't crumble when Joe lashed hooks into his head and body, and got back up again when Joe KD'd him, and went on to get the better of him over 3 contests.

The 2nd one who was bigger, stronger, and a murderous puncher bounced him around the ring like a schoolboy, twice.

That doesn't detract from what he achieved, but if it upsets his little fanboys, tough ****.

There is every reason to believe that Tyson's speed, and power of punch could easily get Frazier out of there early. In fact there are more reasons to believe that, than there are to believe Joe weathers the storm and gradually wears Tyson down.

I honestly don't care what fools like Filly fan think, I'm quite happy to accept the opinions of plenty of people both in the game, and observers with no agenda who say Joe Frazier was a slow starter.

I know (although the odds vary from place to place) it was really a rhetorical question. But thanks anyway :D

    Dodgy chin?
He took all Ruddock's shots without falling, punches that would have floored Frazier.
Do you think Bonavena would drop Tyson?
Frazier was on the floor against Bruce, and Bonavena and he was prime then.
Tyson lost to Douglas because he was worn down.
The only real heavy duty puncher Frazier met used him as a yo yo.

Ruddock did **** to Tyson. Ruddock took a beating. Morrison later messed Ruddock up with one punch. Don't overrate Ruddock.
