The hate for Golovkin on these boards is disgusting bordering on racism as seen above. The guy gets chastised because no one will fight him and is accused on a regular basis on not being built up? Given all the names in the division that are ducking him, your reasoning is that he immediately jump in the ring at 168 with ward. I bet you'd make a great boxing promoter and earn all of your fighter's earning potential.....

    Nooo Kirkland dont do it!

Trout and Ishe Smith are winnable fights for him and make sense

Please I dont wanna see no more Golovkin vs Mayweather threads, Golovkin is fighting at MW but fighting JMWs

Why not just move down and make a statement that your a beast at 154 aswell

If GGG doesn't move down to 154, he is officially less of destroyer, more of a bully

If he doesn't want to move 154, he needs to start fighting big guys

No details at all afaik.. the opponent might not be Kirkland but rather Geale. GGG at least has to stop his opponent in Monte Carlo first , before anything can be finalized. Its entirely possible that the fight would be at a catchweight, but unlikely to be at 154 because then Kirkland would not have a belt opportunity and he came in over 156 his last fight anyhow.

So a catchweight of 157 or 158 for WBA belt is likely, 154 not so much.

edit: Also, his last opponent came down from SMW and was ranked at MW, his opponent before that was a legit ranked MW, his opponent before that had see-sawed but was coming back up, but was a Monte Carlo fight, his opponent before that was a jrMW who rejected a catch weight on his own and admits he is a MW who cuts hard for size advantage, his opponent before that was a ranked MW. Since Rosado proved he could fight at MW, and rejected a catch weight all on his own and Ishida is now looking to (no joke) fight at Heavyweight (so his frame obviously has no issues with building up in weight) saying GGG is bullying small people is not really accurate.

I don't think it will be at all. Kirkland has much better and more winnable fights than this one and hopefully Kirkland's management is smart enough to know that. Kirkland can beat many 154-pounders and his fights are generally must-see-tv, so the money will be there, eventually, to get those 154lb fights. I look for it to be Geale for GGG in April, not Kirkland.

Kirkland's management is 50 cent. He's looking to cash out. His investments haven't been exactly paying off.

I wish that people on this site, who are supposed to know something about boxing, understood the way weight-cutting and fight night weights work. Kirkland is over 170 in the ring. Weighing in at 154, he puts on over 15 pounds in the ~30 hours between the weigh-in and the fight. Getting Golovkin to come in at 154 is an attempt to weaken him before the fight. It doesn't level the playing field or anything like that. The fight simply becomes about who can handle the weigh-cutting and rehydration better, Kirkland or Golovkin.

In his last fight, Kirkland weighed in @155lbs and was 168lbs on fight night(unofficially)
If the fight gets made, I imagine both men will be 170lbs in the ring on fight night.
FWIW I'd rather see GGG vs Geale because I think it's a better fight. If HBO push Kirkland because he is better for business then fair enough.
Either way, both Geale and Kirkland become "bums" or not "legit" 160lb'ers after they get KO'd.
Golovkin is that rare fighter who gets hit too much, but we still need to see how he reacts to getting hit before we can call him the goods.:patsch:lol:

Possibly some truth to that. Something else that occurred to me is 50c doing some horse-trading with HBO. Since 50c's Dirrell cheesed off GBP/SHO , he might be willing to feed Kirkland to GGG in return for HBO giving Dirrell another shot since Dirrell has the talent to be a top fighter if he is truly past the Abraham issue and can get back in the good graces of a premium network.

Plus, losing to GGG has not exactly been the kiss of death career-wise for those who manage to make it a fight. If Kirkland can make it last 5 action-packed rounds, his stock with HBO will go way up not down.

People can cry all they want but HBO will do what they want, and they want ratings! Kirkland-Golovkin brings more ratings than any MW not named Martinez or Quillin. Golovkin agreed to fight Rosado at 158, before Rosado said no. Maybe this fight happens 158, 157, 155, but expect Golovkin's title to be on the line. And as I recall both Hopkins and Hagler made their mark on MW by beating JMW's.

As for Kirkland accepting the fight... He has no other options. He burned his bridge with GB and with that all the tv worthy fights at 154. HBO might be promising him a couple guaranteed fights after this one against guys like Nelson, Andrade, or Matirosyn, so this is probably a good choice for he and 50 to make.

    Here come the excuses.

Kirkland is a jr middle. I don't buy the whole "everyone @ 160 is ducking Golovkin" crap. If the 160lb'ers are so scared then why do the 154lb'ers have no problem getting in the ring with him?

Golovkin is so protected it would be funny if it weren't so SAD.
