Haha, you are way too funny... I need of a little support ?? Look, for the record. Emanuel was great at getting the absolute best of of tall fighters... He polished Hearns and Lewis to a fine shine. He was incredible at getting fighters to turn over on their shots and make them hard hitters. He took Hearns from the crib, basically. And he moved numerous other fighters up the ranks. Class act all the way. But, Eddie Futch was really a true guru when it came to ATG trainers... And, I think most people would honestly agree with that. No one is going to want to say anything to take away from the trainer and class act that Steward was. But, the body of work that Came at the hands of Futch is truly incredible !
Gonna go against the grain and plump for Steward. The work he has done with Wladimir has been outstanding. Absolutely outstanding. It was not only that he had to reinvent Wlad's style, but rebuild his shattered confidence as well. I can't stand the style myself, but it's been very effective. He also masterminded McCall's knockout of Lewis, and did a pretty fine job with Lewis as well. Then there is the Holyfield-Bowe 2 fight, where Evander managed to win back the titles with Steward in the corner. Of course, his work with Tommy Hearns cannot be ignored either, as well as other fighters like Moorer earlier in Moorer's career. One may say that he had great talent to work with, but then that great talent could have had their pick of trainers. The fact that Steward was in the corner with these guys is a testament to his standing in the game as a trainer. So much of a trainer's work is behind the scenes and unless one were to be there, it's difficult to gauge exactly how good a trainer is sometimes. Based on what I can see though, I'm more impressed with what Steward has done.
Muhammad Ali’s most dangerous opponent was not Joe Frazier or Ken Norton, it was Eddie Futch! Whenever he got beaten, Futch was behind the scenes pulling the strings.
Futch. Steward was good with certain types of fighters but even then his fighters had some glaring weaknesses. Such as the right hand over the top, which Howard Cosell pointed out while covering one of Stewards amateurs years before Lennox Lewis got creamed by underdogs using just that tactic in McCall and Rahman. Futch was old school and taught well rounded fundamentals which left his fights much better prepared.
Look, the reason I initially said Futch would be instrumental in the corner for Bowe/Vlad is strategy... He was great at game planning for certain foes. Norton and Ali comes to mind. It wasn`t just his method of training, but the strategy and tactics he employed when preparing his fighters...
Haha, knew you`d check in with your usual brand of inexperience ! Once again your lack of boxing knowledge shines ! Do you have any idea of all the fighters that Futch was involved with ? Of course you don`t... Go back to general forum where you belong,or not.. Please stay out of these conversations where factual knowledge is required Eloy P.S. learn how to read ... So you can do a little bit of research on who Eddie Futch actually was !
Remember, when you get a chance do a bit of research Eddie Futch and his body of work...Hey and I agree Steward was a great trainer in his own right ...
