I had a few positive comments on this post, which was moved to the Whine thread because it was a reply to a silly thread. But let's appreciate the ATG's we have the pleasure of watching their careers as they play out.

    Floyd

He's not 'TBE' but he's a certifiable ATG that belongs within the top 20 ATG (and he's still active, who knows where he will end up once he retires).

People talk about his '0' as not being anything special, but when you consider the fact that he's done it across 5 weight divisions, winning 10 world titles, fought over 20 current, former and future world champions (over half of his fights) and other than Castillo has won all those fights by margins of not less than 116-112 (i.e. comfortable, dominant victories). His resume is truly astounding.

I know he gets a lot of flak on this forum, but his accomplishments speak for themselves (although I'm sure a casuals will pick apart what I'm about to say, event though the same can be said for ANY boxer in history).

    1. Dela Hoya - ATG (World champ coming off a destruction of then world champ Ricardo Mayorga, and considered top 2-3 at 154)

    2. Shane Mosley - ATG [Edit: HOF] (World champ, ranked no. 1 at 147 and p4p no 3, coming off a destruction of Antonio Margartio)

    3. Miguel Cotto - HOF (World champ, ranked no.1 at 154, coming off an impressive revenge and domination of Antonio Margarito)

    4. Juan Manual Marquez - HOF (World champ, ranked no.1 at 135, p4p top 10, coming off an impressive destruction of Juan Diaz, apart of a huge rivalry with Manny, and despite being dominated and supposably not in the best shape, went on to beat Pac 2 times at WW (despite the score for fight 3). Controversy regarding the 144 catchweight, but still a WW fight nonetheless)

    5. Corrales - Possible HOF (The top dog at 130, p4p top 10, undefeated, power in both hands, went on to win numerous world titles after - and was absolutely destroyed)

    6. Castillo - Possible HOF (The top dog at 135, coming off 2 "wins" (one a controversial draw) over Stevie Johnston. Close fight, overrated robbery given that he gave away at least 4 of the first 5 rounds, and despite what detractors say, is the only fighter in his resume that gave him a 'close-ish' fight, immediately revenged)

    7. Ricky Hatton - Possible HOF (World champ at 140, undefeated, p4p top 5, impressive win over Kostya)

    8. Genero Hernandez - Possible HOF (World champ at 135, great career, experience over a 20 month pro in his 18th fight, anybody who doesn't respect him needs to watch his career set. Absolute destruction)

    9. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez - Potentially future of the sport (World champ at 154, recognised as the number 1 in the divisions and the number threat to Floyd. Was absolutely dominated).

    10. Zab Judah - Probably not HOF, but you never know with how many people get in ("World champ" at 147, on the streak of his career with a very impressive performance against Cory Spinks in the rematch, followed by a disappointing performance against Carlos Baldomir (although his mind was focused on Floyd, methinks). Contract was signed before the Baldomir fight anyways. Put on the fight of his life (who wouldn't when facing Mayweather?), despite being soundly beaten after those first 4 rounds where he won 2 maybe 3 rounds).

    11. Arturo Gatti - HOF (World champ on the best streak of his career, 2 time world champ in total. Blood and guts warrior, hyped fight - but one of the most destructive performances you'll see in the modern era).

Add guys like Jesus Chaves (future world champ), Carlos Hernandez (future world champ), Demarcos Corley (former world champ), Carlos Baldomir (number 1 WW at the time), Victor Ortiz (world champ, coming off a great win over Andre Berto) and Robert Guerrero (2 time world champ, interim WW champ coming off a win over Andre Berto)

All that while losing no more than 3 rounds, 4 at the max (bar Castillo, who he gave an immediately rematch), spanning five divisions and remaining UNDEFEATED - never been seen before.

And his skills speak for themselves.

While I don't personally care, but doing this all the while making 100's of millions of dollars.

There MUST be some form of kudos.

A breakdown of Pac's amazing career on request...

Floyd - "ATG that belongs within the top 20 ATG"

No. he still didn't fight his biggest rival lol. It's really simple as that. He might scrape into the top 20. How you can boast about being an undefeated great who has dominated for 12+ years yet hasn't fought the next best guy blows my mind.

Dlh hadn't fought in a year

Shane's win over Toni was a joke, Shane was shot to ****

Cotto was a good win, manny beat a much better cotto

Jmm before roids? Looked old and fat, and a perfect style matchup for Floyd

Not a single atg in their prime in this list

Castillo was already old vs a prime 24 year old Floyd and dominated Floyd

Now this is a good post.

He is indeed going to be a top 20 atg by the time he retires.

    Cheers!

    This isn't about *****s or *******s

This is about manny having a legitimate atg resume and Floyd.....not having one

If Floyd fought oscar and Shane 5 years before he did, then yes, those are great wins

    Robinson never fought Burley.

    Who cares.

You judge a fighter based on what they have accomplished.

You don't judge them based on what they should have done or what you personally wish they would have done.

Was that directed at me, or Nonito?

The next break down is for the ATG Pac, who is clearly (with Floyd) the biggest ATG of our era.

Just waiting on a request to do a Pac career breakdown, a bonafide ATG - just didn't want to bore people cause I haven't posted here in over a year.

Pacs resume is really overrated by people he had 9 fights with MAB,Morales and JMM and nobody questions this? And at 147 he's 6-2 with 2 KOs take a closer look at his record people.

    1. Oscar hadn't fought in a year.

    2. Even though he was on every P4P list and #3 on most. Ok. "shot to ****" sure.

    3. "manny beat a much better cotto"

But how so? That same Cotto lost to Margarito BEFORE Pacquiao beat him, and then Mosley beats Margarito in dominant one sided fashion immediately after yet you somehow claim to discredit Mosley's win over Margarito as "a joke." If a "shot to ****" fighter beats "a joke," then what does that make the man that the "joke" beat to get to his lofty ranking?

You clearly are describing an opinion which Floyd's win over Mosley is >>>>> Pacquiao's win over Cotto and I can't say I agree with you.

    4. Oh you have proof that JMM failed a drug test after the Floyd fight? Would love to hear it.

    Oh, you don't? Cool.

"Looked old and fat" but looked even older when he scored KTFO6, which many will claim is the finest victory in boxing for a decade or so.

    5. Not the first ATG to never beat an ATG in their prime. Afterall, most ATG's never lost in their prime. Otherwise it's easy to say they weren't prime, isn't it?

There aren't too many ATG's, especially in this era or those right before it, that have beaten many fellow prime ATG's. They are either aged, declined in skill, or not at the ideal weight class.

Mayweather is not the exception as most of his detractors will say. He is the rule along with all before him.

    6. Castillo was old? Really, you're going to go that far to discredit that win?

    He was 29 years old.

And two years after the second loss to Floyd, Castillo would go on to fight a consecutive tough opposition streak in Lazcano (vacant WBC @ 135), Casamayor, Diaz, Corrales I (the legend), and Corrales II.

    ---

Two sides to every story, my friend.

Overall, yeah I'd say this was an utter fail but whatevs.

    Time will tell.

We're talking about our generations ATG, who have achieved amazing feats, and we should appreciate what we are seeing.

    Love them or hate them.

Agree with more or less everything in the original post, apart from Cotto being the no1 light middleweight at the time, wins over Yuri Foreman, Ricardo Mayorga & a one eyed Margarito didn't make him no1 in the division.
