These are opinions, numbers are facts. But how about some links. We all know how you like to just make things up and run with it.

You think top contenders not fighting each other is unique to this era:-(

I think this current heavyweight division has at least as many, if not more, "live" fights than previous eras. "Tomato Can" wasn't invented yesterday.

I read them too at the time they were written. I'm definitely not 13 years old. I can't find much on line but I may go to the University of Houston Library archives which has some back issues of the Ring magazine and write certain select quotes about the heavyweight division being crap for the past 50 years.

I do agree that contenders should fight each other more often. That was one thing I like about Povetkin before Teddy Atlas got his mitts on him; he wasn't matched soft. Doing that would create natural challengers and the fights would be easier to sell.

Holmes' era suffered from that same trend- a guy like Cooney, for example, was Holmes' biggest win of his title reign and Gerry was managed purely for profit first instead of developing into the best fighter he could.

With all due respect to you and that thread, it states in the first post that various sources were used. You may not agree but I think a singular reliable source cuts down on the confusion of ABC ranked contenders.

Fair post. I really don't think we're as far off on our opinions as it seems. We just have different routes to get to our conclusions.

Denis didn't fight for a world title, though. Wach and Pieneta did, in spite of having 10 plus wins each against fighters with losing records.

Spinks did fight for a world title in spite of having just 6 wins with 3 of them against fighters with losing records.

Yep and look at the rest of Ali's résumé. 7 fights vs top 10 ATG's going 5-2. Both Klits combined...0-1 against a fat, inactive top 10 ATG. Excellent comparison again, dopey! :yep

And I can go on with the supposedly superior heavyweights of yesteryear.

But back to the task at hand.

Following his fight with LeDoux, October 10, 1980 Holmes fought Muhamad Ali. Ali fought anybody and everybody. I think he was around 35 or 36 years old but Ali was on the decline for sure. So he was a big name with greatly diminished ability. Kind of easy pickings. I think this was the fight that Holmes won the IBF title and never unified the championship.

Why don't you try looking at the whole career and is it their fault Lewis decided he didn't want to eat anymore Klitschkos and retired just when there were skilled big men who would punch him back and weren't scared to fight him?
