Or is Carlos Takam's defense damn good? I don't know how much of a factor Mike Perez's last fight had on his aggression but he was not pulling the trigger as much as he usually does and when he did pill the trigger he was missing all over the place. From what I saw, Carlos Takam looked like a goddamn defensive wizard out there, I counted two rounds where Perez didn't even land a single meaningful shot.
Round 6 was a phone booth war! Looked a little like Tua-Ibeabuchi. Perez was getting brutalized, Takam was robbed no doubt.
The Perez hype is now over. He is too short for a HW and his conditioning is not good. The draw is OK for me though. Both fighters are legit top 20 HWs but nothing more.
I thought that it was a damn sorry fight to be honest. Never understood the Perez hype the least bit. He did however deserve some meaningful fights based on his performance vs Tye Fields but now he's had them. It's possible that Perez's last fight was influenced by the damage absorbed by his previous opponent but if that's the case then Perez should be ready for action for his next fight.
he was not holding back, chris bryd got it spot on, he started slugging and trading, instead of boxing like he did in the begining. Atleast he is stepping up and taking good opponents unlike other fighters, i think he will improve and can be a force and a real competitor for the division, I think he can win a title in the future. He has talent just needs to use his strengths more. When a fighter fights bums all the time, fans keep hyping him up, but a fighter fighting good competition doesnt get any credit, of course its gonna be a tougher fight when you fight top 20-30 guys and he may not look as good but he is learning more than someone fighting a bum. I think Perez is developing the right way, would have liked to see more boxing instead of allowing himself to be manhandled, he can develop as he progresses.
Well, 100 years ago the average human height was probably 3-5 inches less than nowadays. It takes more than a talent to be competitive if you are 3-5 inches shorter than an elite opponent, and as I mentioned Mike obviously does not work enough in the gym to overcome such disadvantage. He (imo Mike Tyson too) has no chance against Klitchko.
