After years of hype, can we finally agree that Bute was just never that good?

I don't think Froch destroyed his career. I just think he wasn't able to hang with top-self competition, so he was exposed by Froch. It's not like if he had never fought Froch he'd magically be able to handle top-level opponents.

Kessler ducked Bute? Please he would kill Bute, it wouldn't be as rough as the Froch whopping, but it would be quicker and more systematic beatdown, just watch the Magee fight.
Outside of Froch, Kessler & probably Ward (Styles makes fight) he'd beat must of them guys before the Froch fight, but the hype here was insane. People thought he was quicker than Ward and so on..

He has some decent wins and he definitely has skills, But he was ruined by Froch and you could see that in the Pascal fight. It's way too easy these days to overhype and over critique a Boxer. He wasn't the GOAT but neither was he the shittest

He was off for over a year, so, I think it was a mistake to come back to such a difficult fight. He was rusty and it showed and I think that rust turned into lack of confidence as the fight wore on.

Guys who outspokenly believed in Bute during the three year run to the Froch fight should hang there heads (as 90% were annoying), with hindsight in mind. Odds are what you said and believed about Bute; you were dramatically wrong.

He has looked horrible in his last 3 fights. In that streak he beat Grachev but to me a Draw would have been most representative of the fight to history as it seemed a clear slim majority scored that fight for Grachev.

It has been obvious for ages that he wasn't that good. Some of us tried to explain why to others, specifically clowns that claimed Ward is ducking him . that he's not any good especially based on his resume. Bute's biggest wins are Miranda, Johnson and Andrade. That's all you need to know about him.

And he went life and death in the first Andrade fight and should have been counted out. I will give him credit for taking a re-match after such controversy unlike Froch. Bute just was not as good as his record might have indicated.

Bute was good just not that good.

Bika, Andrade II, Johnson, and Brinkley were nice wins. Andrade II in particular was very impressive display of prose and power, to come back from what was technically a bad knockout loss to KO a guy who never had been hurt before. Easy to trash Bute now.

Some people were so right that they knew even more than Ward who refused to fight that bum that was overhyped for a great amount of money. According to that logic, Ward was going to exposed for a lot of money (he could have done in Montreal in front of close to 20 000 thousand people) that bum. Well, guess what, Ward himself didn't take that easy money because of that lamest excuse: "not worthy enough". Saying that after admitting it was logical that the S6 winner would fight Bute right after.

Bute was good, was a big threat to Ward, and Froch ruined him. Bute early got caught by a shot from Froch early in the fight, lost his leg, and got destroyed. Bute is now scared to fight.

But he was good and fighting a feather fisted fighter right à la Ward could be a good thing for him right now.

It was pretty funny how it all came crumbling down with Bute when he really had some people believing he was the second coming. I distinctly remember being laughed at on these boards when I picked Froch because he was a much better fighter than Andrade and thus a massive step up in class for Bute. Then it was all liver shot this, uppercut that...

so you believe that the Bute before the Froch fight would be gun shy (he's never been like that before) and perform poorly against someone like Gratchev?

and then do it again against Pascal?

god, some people need their eyes and head tested round here. it's very, very clear to anyone with a brain and who's watched Bute's career that the Froch fight has destroyed all confidence he had in himself.

if you can't see how gun shy Bute is, and how scared he is of getting hit now, then there is nothing else to discuss because you're too ****ing stupid to even understand the basics. :-(

big fan of Kessler here, but yeah, he did turn down a big money offer to fight Bute. both were free to fight each other. nothing was standing in the way.

it was between 2 and 3 million if i remember correctly that was on offer to Kessler.

i'm not saying Bute would have won or anything, because Kess would have knocked him out. but it is true that he didn't fancy it.

I'll agree to that if you'll agree that Ward, Kessler, Dawson et al bought the Bute hype too. Why? Because they were stupid? Because they and their coaches didn't know boxing? Or maybe because it wasn't all hype? Cause sure as hell it wasn't because a handful of Bute fans on ESB managed to convince the whole boxing establishment that a mediocre fighter was at least the second best if not the best at SMW...

They all def bought into the hype. He did look great against the fringe level opponents which made him look a much more dangerous proposition than he was.
