Source: Supplied ANTHONY Mundine's January 29 fight night in Brisbane will go ahead despite American opponent Carson Jones withdrawing due to illness, according to the former NRL star's management. Jones' camp informed Mundine's manager Khoder Nasser over the weekend that Jones had influenza and wouldn't be able to fight. Nasser said despite speculation the withdrawal had put the entire fight night in jeopardy, a replacement would be found for Mundine in time for the bout to go ahead. "It's happened before and Sam Soliman stepped in the last time," Nasser said Monday. "It's one of those things, it happens but it happens rarely." Nasser said he was in discussion with four fighters to replace Jones and was hopeful a name could be announced as early as Monday night. "Some fighters never get an opportunity, they're always looking for something like this to happen," he said. "Somewhere in the next 24-48 hours (we'll have someone) ... as we speak we've got four possible opponents, so the fight will go ahead." Rugby star Quade Cooper is also set to feature on the undercard at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, taking on 40-year-old ****** Tresidder. "We'll be trying our very best to make this event go ahead," Nasser added. "Quade really wants this fight. It's part of his regime." Nasser had earlier admitted finding an opponent that Mundine considered worthy on such short notice would be tough. "Anthony has a vision of the boxers he wants to be fighting," he said. They include Ghanaian light middleweight Joshua Clottey, who has gone the distance with Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto. "We're not going to be able to get him here on 10 days' notice. Our plan was for him to be Anthony's next opponent," Nasser said. He also said he was not concerned by poor ticket sales for Wednesday week's scheduled event. "We never worry about ticket sales. If Anthony did, he'd be fighting the likes of Sakio Bika, Lovemore Ndou and Danny Green," Nasser said. "Those fights would all make good money. Anthony knows the opponents he wants to fight to get him to where he wants to be." But it won't be Clottey so my friend was wrong about that but was right about Jones.
You would think with 9 days notice it would have to be a Aussie or a Kiwi at least.Ill go with Daniel Dawson or Chad Bennet.
