hes 2-2 in his last 4 fights over 2 years. the 2 wins coming against guys with a combined 18 losses.
when the #1 ranked guy is fighting the #22 ranked guy, its pretty much a garbage fight no one cares about :deal

    That was 3 years ago!

He's lost to Mike Alvarado and Karim Mayfield since then.

Oh no? Very close bouts in wins over Provodnikov and Dallas Jr. (where, no, he probably didn't earn the nod, but in both cases more than close enough to argue for a draw) and losses to Mayfield, Alvarado and Anchondo, as well as a dominant shutout of Kim all say otherwise.

Can he win consistently at the highest level, beating elites and holding a title for long? No, he isn't that kind of talent. But on a given night he can absolutely compete and give any champ/elite more difficulty than just about any other non-elite.

According to what, Boxrec? With the shot bedraggled Soto ahead of him? Not to mention domestic talents like Hamilton and Marali?

He is, h2h, somewhere in the 12-15 vicinity. Not top 10, granted, but not too far outside 15 if outside at all.

    1 Matthysse
    2 Provodnikov
    3 Khan
    4 Alvarado
    5 Peterson
    6 Judah
    7 Allakhverdiev
    8 Jean
    9 Postol
    10 Aydin

Which of those makes sense, taking all factors into consideration? (boxing politics/non-collaboration between promoters; fighters having just fought or scheduled to fight soon; unwillingness to travel abroad, etc)

Herrera is far from ideal, I'll grant you, but he is on the tier of more or less 'best available' for Garcia.

    Nobody is.

(Well, MVC! did say he was, but he also said he barely knows who Herrera is )

People are realistic about it. Of the available options for Garcia, it could be a lot worse than Herrera.

Anyway, it won't be all that competitive (especially if Herrera is seeing this as his big payday and not really 'up' for trying to win, and only signed with GBP for the quick turnaround cash-out - and hell, even if he's up for it and gives the fight of his life it still probably will end up one-sided in Garcia's favor, just to a lesser extent) but then neither would most light welterweights outside the top 5-10 thrown in with Garcia right now.

I dig this! Im happy Garcia is not waiting on shelf for a huge fight. many boxers have dont that and it hurts them in the ring. September till march is already a while so im happy hes staying active! Plus this means that he will at least fight 3 times this year which he needs to. young in his prime, keep fighting often.

    oh yea....Garcia by brutal KO

Eh it's not a super fight but they can't all be. Good opposition to stay focused if he's having an active 2014, there'll be at least one ball tearer.

yes but he beat someone who is ranked at number 2 NOW not THEN... Freddie Roach brought a new dimension to Ruslan's game and he's looked solid since... look at Danny Garcia himself... he's a totally different fighter than what he was when he fought Morales the first time around... hence the brutal KO in the 2nd round despite the fact that the first was a grueling war...

Garcia has had the same trainer forever :patsch

I get what u saying though. But like I said hes still got a win over Ruslan, Roach made a little better not crazy good. Its not a superfight but all fights cant be. most opponets are locked up right now.

Is this a main event? If not Im alright with this as a stay busy, undercard fight. Like somebody already said - its better than him waiting around for bigger fights.

Will be a nice little brawl as well.
