Ok fair enough, but could you point out the fights pre prison where he struggled after 6 rounds? (Apart from the obvious) so i can go back and watch again cos im not seeing that? And you say his bobbing and weaving was not affective? You could count on one hand how many times he got caught clean with power shots up to 89, in about 35-36 fights. Not bad if you ask me. Also theres a vid somewhere with rooney and cus stating the made him spar 15 rounds so he wouldnt gas. So agree to dissagree.
the best fighter he fought up until '89 was a 38 y.o. Larry Holmes...and don't tell me michael spinks because he didnt even wanna come out of the locker room
Ali beats Tyson 8 out of 10 fights. The two he would lose are due to his not being focused. A better match-up would have been a prime Tyson against a prime Joe Frazier. Now, that would have been a fight!
Elroy logic 101. Younger newer fighters are always better than ones of the past. For every 5 years of difference between a fighter, the younger is 2x as good. The closer to present you are, the more unbeatable you are. All who have a different viewpoint are nutbags because they don't agree with my opinion err... I mean fact. Samuel peter is an ATG Tokyo buster is now a thing and a marvel of heavyweight history. Antonio DeMarco beats Duran, b. Leonard, arguello, and JCC because he is modern. SRR could never possibly beat a fighter that came along after his retirement. Vitili Klitschko would lose to all current heavyweight contenders even in his prime because he retired and is now a fighter of the past. Ali is the worst heavyweight of all time, despite having one of the best resumes in boxing and generally being viewed as the best heavyweight. David haye is GOAT because he has a ripped body and tight ass. So says the law. The law of Elroy the delusional of the house DKSAB.
I think both guys just want to be modest. I think of the Frazier fights and part of me thinks if he can lose to Frazier; he could lose to Tyson.
Tyson by TKO. Ali had a tendency to take little breaks here and there and Tyson would punish the **** out of Ali
Tokyo Buster was a marvel in my opinion, I'll agree with that, ha ha. Compare that Buster Douglas to his other fights and he really did fight incredibly well that night which makes it understandable when people say Ali at his best could do the same...my point is that wasn't Tyson at his best so difficult to really judge. Something interesting I saw yesterday as I was watching season 1 of 'Being: Mike Tyson' was the episode where he meets and talks with Holyfield. They talk about their match together and preparation, and Holyfield brought up something I never realized before. Evander stated that when Tyson was younger or pretty much at his best and had Rooney in his corner, he was very hard to predict with his head movevement and bobbing and therefore really hard to hit. He then said that once the king crew (he called them the black crew or something like that but pretty much when Don King took over) he started to have a rhythm because of his new trainers that he just repeated and Holyfield figured it out because it was predictable. Now I knew Tyson's defense wasn't up to par with what it was when he was at his best but I didn't notice a change or pattern like he mentioned, thought that was quiet interesting. Also I see people doing quotes from both fighters in this thread. I was watching a documentary the other day called the Golden Era of Heavyweights or something like that with most of the 70's HW champions. Ali actually did say in it "Listen I don't have to say I'm the greatest but when I quit boxing the game died, didn't it die? Until Tyson came along but still when you watch Tyson he's good but he's no Muhammad Ali" ...but we all know how humble Ali was (this was in the 80's when filmed I believe). Tyson on the other hand always says that Ali is the greatest, he also visits him in Being: Mike Tyson and you can tell he admires him a lot so would never say he'd beat him. Tyson's always been humble about past champions and I'm sure even more so these days.
I have always maintained that he was not the same fighter after Rooney left. And after watching that episode I agreed with Holyfield . That comment was honorable from Holyfield and the look in Tyson's eyes when he heard it ;said it all.
Ali wins , Tyson wont close the distance that Ali will impose on him , Alis left jab will chop up Tyson which will lead to a late round stoppage.
Holmes had a better jab than Ali.... Yes he was past it, but the jab did nothing for Holmes. Tyson would weave in and BEAST Ali. We have to stop pretending the old era dudes always win.
Are'nt we talking prime here , 67 Ali versus 89 Tyson , Christ that version of Larry Holmes jab and his movement are light years from the float like a butterfly sting like a bee 67 version of Ali . A stiff , slow , totally shot Holmes still took a round off Tyson. History in hindsight has shown Tyson to be the most mentally fragile champ of all time , Ali would have won this fight long before they clashed. Blackness you gotta get out of this idea that modern is always better .
