Lots of great posts... Futch could take them for the crib, and man could Steward put the fishes touches on someone ! I think that Futch was a great gameplan guy as well. He got Norton and Frazier to beat Ali and give him fits... And, they were BOTH two of the classiest guys to ever grace the sport ...
I think Yank Durham is being criminally overlooked in Frazier's development as a fighter here. Futch is getting credit that is only partially deserved when talking about Frazier.
Good point. I honestly am a little in the dark over that... Yank was Frazier`s main man to be sure. But, over the years, I`ve heard whiffs that say Futch had more say in what went into Frazier than they let out. I know that Durham and Frazier has a really tight connection and bond that went beyond fighter/trainer... Durham was more like a Father figure to Joe...
Very well said!! Durham and Frazier were thick as thieves WG!! But this may be one of the few times we disagree:yep I have to take Manny here! In my eyes more accomplishments and not as many gaps between great fighters and Champions! Futch was great tho.. only a moron wouldnt admit that!! :good:bbb:good
Eddie himself said he did almost all the work with Frazier and that Yank was the flamboyant front man who liked the cameras and limelight.
Hmmm...I'm finding that hard to believe to be honest. (Not what you said, but what Futch said, if he said that.) A lot of the early groundwork for Frazier was done by Durham by the time Futch came on board. What I'm saying is this: Joe is seen as Eddie's fighter, but Eddie should not get all the credit. Durham was there with Joe from the very beginning, Futch was not.
All great posts as usual ! SP, as for comparing the two, I will say it all depends on what day you ask me You guys have out up some good arguments and points as well.!!
I think both were exceptional ... when you get to that level then it comes down to a personal ability to connect w a specific fighter ... very little you could have taught either man at the top of their game ..
