If you think GGG is devoid of boxing skills or defense, then you need to look again or learn more about the sport. Furthermore, you don't pile up one of the best amateur records in the sport by lacking boxing skills and defense.

Everyone wants the top MWs to get in the ring with GGG, but the money hasn't been there for them to take the risk. If all goes well, we should see some top MWs in with GGG this year and then we will all see who's right and who's wrong.

it hasn't been about the money that GGG hasn't got the big fights, he just had zero US profile before HBO picked him up
being with felix sturm's promo company had a lot to do with that

now he's in the unusual position of having more leverage than any MW (arguably) to make a big fight, but all without having fought anybody

"By going into Sturm’s backyard to defend the belt, Barker earned the lion’s share of the purse, reportedly a payday of £840,000,"

because sturm doesn't fight outside of Germany, not unless Oscar offers him a fight in the de la hoya sweepstakes

why do you think sturm does this?
a fighter who has never fought the legit MW champ and never intends to (over a 15 year period)

sturm and GGG were in the same promo company, and sturm STILL didn't fight him! on top of that, he wouldn't even fight Abraham

you're talking about a serial paper champion who picks and chooses who he fights, with the sole intention of getting rich off of german beercan fans who don't know he isn't legit

GGG is fighting in the US and has HBO backing, so you know he wants big fights

sturm knows that if he gets 'a belt', then he can keep selling himself as a 'world champion' - and that's all he cares about, because it makes good $$$

LOL. Like I said earlier, he's stumbled into the wrong forum. He was clearly looking for a forum of ice and fire over at westeros.org. From his posts, he'd definitely be better off analyzing GRR Martin's books than boxing.

Did Barker get a piece of Sturm's sweet German TV deal money?

It most certainly is about money. What other "leverage" is there? GGG has not had the ratings/fans to warrant the monetary backing to give MW top fighters a reason to get into the ring with a dangerous opponent.

It's simple risk-reward, if the fight is high risk, it will need to be high reward, too. Before K2, the HBO exposure, the hype, and the ratings, he didn't have the means to meet the reward part of the equation. Now he's beginning to get close to the purses required to meet the reward worthy of the risk for top MWs and thus we will start seeing the fights we want to see.

    I mentioned HBO initially
like I said - no US profile, no big fights

HBO have given him the profile (in spades), so it's only a matter of time.
he has 'notoriety' on his side even though he hasn't fought anyone - puts him in a good spot

Macklin is the same level as Audley? A man who really beat sturm and has only lost to Sergio and GGG is the same as a guy with losses to a 40 part time Belfast cab driver, Danny Williams and was KTFO by Michael Sprott. Ok.

Not sold on GGG, I get it. Thinking A-Farce and Mack are similar standard fighters? That's lunacy.

Maybe but I'm not so sure Macklin is better than Liakhovich.

Then you should watch more boxing, cause Macklin beat Sturm and was more competitive with p4p Sergio than Sergei vs Helenius. Sherman Williams did far better vs same opponent.

Oh please...Liakhovich has been shot to pieces since like 2006.
Macklin was very competitive with World Champions Martinez and Sturm prior to facing GGG.

Macklin is much better than Lyahkovich. Have gave Martinez pure Hell..............Golovkin is trying to get Martinez, Quillin, Sturm, Geale, to fight him, but they are afraid they will get knocked out...............Who in the Hell has Wilder fought? Golovkin is so much more skilled than Wilder that it puts Wilder to shame. Golovkin had 350 amateur fights................

Barker would've not made even half of that against Gennady on HBO.

K2 can't make fights we want to see happen with million dollar budgets.
