...yet there are the HBO fees, international tv fees, all paid to the promoters I imagine. Say we're talking 6M overall. Each guy got 2M, or was it "2M guaranteed"? Who gets the 2M difference between the fighters' 2M's and the 6M revenues? Promoters? 47 000 buys as indicated here: http://www.rds.ca/combat/boxe/stevenson-de-retour-le-24-mai-1.835062 Say 40K bought it in HD ($70), 7K bought it in standard def ($60). That makes roughly 3.3M. Over 20 000 people attended the fight, we'll assume a conservative average of $100 a ticket... although some sections were priced ridiculously high. There's your other 2M. 5.3M plus all tv revenues outside of Canada, you could go as high as 6.5M. ...bottom line? That's where Stevenson wants to be. He needs an opponent that's built up like the second coming of Ali or one of Pascal/Bute to achieve that. Des- they just set the bar for Kovalev-Stevenson. Because Kovalev could be the end for Stevenson, he'll want a retirement fund type of fight that will generate revenues in the 6-7M ballpark. Kovalev needs to be hyped by HBO, but also hyped to the Québécois over and over for interest sake. This might take us to 2015 unfortunately.
Obviously Stevenson vs. Kovalev is the fight to see right now but if one weren't being naive to reality... Stevenson vs. Pascal is a good and logical fight to happen over the summer first, in my opinion.
I really don't see Pascal-Stevenson happening. There's a much better chance of Pascal-Kovalev if the Bute rematch doesn't materialize IMO.
Bite your tongue Drozzy. Or at least your typing fingers..... 2015 is unacceptable. Unacceptable, I say! So we are in agreement there will much milking going on?
Very impressive figures,if true.In regards to domestic PPV,however, remember the carrier,in this case Indigo, receives 50% of all revenues sold on their system. Never the less, the fight was clearly successful,in terms of money if not action wise.
I fully agree that Stevenson vs Kovalev is the best fight to be made right now but Stevenson obviously wants/earned a payday before taking a risky fight. Fighting Pascal in Canada would guarantee him far more than fighting Kovalev. In the meantime, I'd like to see Kovalev fight a decent opponent and add more pressure on Stevenson.
Sounds like Stevenson and Pascal are friends. At the very least, Pascal likes there being another Haitian boxing champ in town. I don't think they would fight. If they do, there'd also be a high risk of them taking it easy on each other.
If they're friends then they simply won't fight each other. Though if they do sign for a fight, expect them to swing away like they never knew each other. They're professionals and boxing is their life/job, outside friendship and respect shouldn't ruin their performances.
As friends, they might agree to make quite a bit of money and that punching each other in the face for an hour might be worth it and might not ruined their friendship. Beside, they already punch themself in the face twice in the ams. Boxing made them friends. Plus one is a cop and the other is a pimp. Great match up!
