Same reason why everyone thats popular is always hated. Because of their ******ed fansthat try to jam their favorite fighter down peoples throats. You cant make some one like your fighter if they dont. Its just gonna make them dislike them more.

    HEADBANGER,

The circumstances would be completely different.

    1. James had great wins in his early 20's, over better fighters than who Andre's fought.

    2. Andre is 29.

    3. Andre would never fight 10 fights in just 16 months.

Again, most of those fights, were keep busy fights, and Littles was a very good fighter, and his last fight was against a peak Roy Jones. Joe would never have fought a peak Roy Jones, we both know that.

Overall, was James's 168 resume weak? Yes it was. I agree that it was weak.

But the HUGE difference is, James only fought at 168 for just two years. Joe fought 95% of his career at 168, and waited TEN years to unify.

So with wins over McCallum, Reggie and Nunn, you can forgive James for fighting subpar opposition for 2 years.

    What was Joe's excuse??

He fought mainly subpar opposition for 14 years, and had to kill himself to make weight, when he could have been in the 175 mix with likes of Roy and DM etc.

From 98-2006, the 168 division was one of the weakest in boxing.

Roy also didn't have a great 168 resume. But in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter, because he too just passed through, and then went onto achieve great things afterwards.

So if you analyse James's WHOLE career, it doesn't matter that his 168 resume was weak. It's irrelevant.

But when you analyse Joe's career, and his 168 resume makes up for 95% of his career, then it's going to come under more scrutiny.

Mike was still a class act at 34/35, and James was only young.

Nunn was a class act, and at 23 that eclipses any of Joe's wins.

Reggie Johnson was a very good fighter.

Compare the above to Joe's best wins.

Eubank - A good win in his first big fight, but Eubank retired two fights later, and was preparing to fight a 175 guy, until he got the call to face Joe, just 11 days out.

Lacy - A fantastic performance, but who had Lacy beaten?

Kessler - Joe's biggest fight to unify at 168 after ten years. Kessler is a very good fighter, but he's far from elite, and who had he beaten going into the fight?

Hopkins - A disputed win against a 43 year old, who was forced to play act, because he didn't have the stamina.

    Their resumes aren't even close.

I'm not forgetting anything. Toney was his own worst enemy. He used to gorge himself inbetween fights, and when you're fighting regularly and abusing your body, then it's inevitable that your going to get the odd bad performance. Joe fought 46 times before he retired. James's 3rd fight with McCallum was his 46th fight in 1997. We both know that a fully fit and motivated version of him fighting to his full capabilities would easily have beaten Tiberi etc. We can spin it however you want. Do you think Toney at 100% would have struggled with Robin Reid and Mikkel Kessler?

I don't condone steroid abuse in anyway.

You've said it, 12 fights. That's nothing. All in just a 2 year period, and he beat Littles and fought Roy. Compare that to 14 years at 168, with Kessler as the biggest win at the weight, and it's a JOKE!

No, I can't imagine Joe struggling with those guys. But Joe sometimes fought only 2 to 3 times within a 16 month period, not ten times.

James's 160 resume ALONE, pisses on Joe's ENTIRE resume.

    James would also fight anyone.

    Compare that to Joe.

    1999 - "I'm not chasing Roy Jones."

    1999 - "I don't want tough fights."

2002 - "I think I could give Roy a great fight, but I know what my capabilities are, and I'd want the Crown Jewels."

2004 - "I know I need to move up to 175, there's nothing left for me here."

2004 - "I want big fights, and I know I need to go to America."

2004 - "I'm confident that I can take my speed up with me."

2007 - "Tarver's not all that, he's just beat a faded Roy Jones that's all."

2007 - "A fight with Roy Jones would now be pointless!"

2008 - "Roy Jones isn't a great fighter anymore, and I'd be disappointed if he was to be my last fight.

2008 - After the fight - "I'm the Legend killer!"

    2008 - "There's nothing left to achieve!"

Overall, Joe's resume is a JOKE compared to Toney's. :good

He ruined a near 40 year old fighter, who'd been destroyed four years earlier, by a guy who lost to Clinton Woods?

In all the fights and videos I've seen of Joe Calzaghe, I've never thought "wow" to myself. Not once. Even when he's crushing cans (a strong majority of his career) it doesn't look impressive. The fights just end with a flurry of maybe 30 relatively weak, fairly speedy punches thrown with utterly horrific technique and almost no power; followed by a british stoppage.

I'm not saying Calzaghe wasn't ever anything, I think he was a fairly solid fighter. There seems to be a large gap in what I see on tape and how he is revered on this forum.

    What do you think, ESB?

There are things to be impressed with about Calzaghe. His work rate was incredible, he could keep a fast tempo up for 12 rounds. He wasn't a heavy hitter, but his hand speed was excellent. Had excellent whiskers as well

You sure do talk a lot about him for someone who is supposedly not impressed. In fact, you seem completely obsessed by him, as do many others on here who spend so much of their time posting about him.

You should get a room with that Herol dude. Make sure it's got separate beds, mind. I'd hate to see what the offspring of a goose stepping Nazi and an Indian member of the Nation of Islam would look like.

Oh wait a moment. I think I've just found a picture of it.

You couldn't not be impressed by his speed and work rate.
