    I agree with this.

Joe would be too much for Groves. Calzaghe on a wide points decision.

Thinking about those punches would probably cut up George face as he does seem to cut easily with his pale skin.

i would say groves is a bit similar to Kessler and Calzaghe beat him by 3-4 rounds ...

if they fought now it would be very close ha ha

Calzaghe would do a number on Groves with a fairly wide UD on the cards first few rounds would be even.

From the midway point it would be one way traffic & GG would end up very, very marked up be a good fight in theory though!

I agree that the Kessler fight gives a good idea of what might happen. Groves is good, and Joe would take a few rounds to figure him out (maybe even tasting canvas in the process). After that he'd take control. Maybe Groves could adapt and keep things interesting but I see Joe becoming increasingly comfortable and either stopping George late on or a UD by 3-5 rounds.

I don't see the comparison between Groves and Kessler. Kessler is a text book Euro fighter with little lateral movement, whereas Groves has plenty of movement and has a sort of crouching down style that enable explosiveness. Groves seems to have a wide skill set and a good IQ in the ring, who can adapt and alter his game plan. He would be a hard opponent for Calz due to his unpredictability.

Against Froch you could tell that Groves was constantly thinking and adapting with the changing situation.

The thing is you can say exactly the same for Calzaghe only Joe had the physical durability to go to war with someone if need be and adapt accordingly. George's big miscalculation against Froch was that after dominating for the most part he thought he'd softened Froch up enough to be able to try the macho stuff. That's when things started coming unstuck a bit for him.

My one one worry at the mo about Groves is how he reacts when under pressure and being hit by a top class operator.

Good shout mate. His face after Froch was awful. He really does mark up badly..

I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't mean to suggest that Groves and Kessler are similar fighters. I just think the Groves fight would pan out in a similar fashion to the Kessler one, with Calzaghe taking a few rounds to suss out a good opponent then coming on strong late on to win a clear decision.

Groves would be embarrassed by Calzaghe.
He shot his bolt against Froch, in a fight he was winning comfortably.
In Calzaghe he'd be fighting somebody just as tough, but also somebody that was much quicker than himself, and with an engine capable of throwing non stop for 12 rounds.
Calzaghe would tear his face to shreds and force a stoppage in the later rounds whilst being well ahead on the cards.

you reckon he chose to go toe to toe with froch? it looked like he got tired to me. he was breathing heavily as early as the break after the 2nd round.
