    Unpopular but correct viewpoint, IMO. Nobody wants to imagine such a pillar of self-confidence was a puppet, but the shoe fits.

    Quite true, but I do believe he himself didn't like the idea of the Vietnam war; whilst he may not have had a good understanding of US foreign politics he had a very good understanding of Human Rights - whether he praised it like that or not.

    Yeah, probably not after Frazier's health deteriorated, or his eventual death.

    I could definitely see Ali being obnoxious on-and-off about Frazier throughout the 80's-90's, though. The fight between their daughters would have certainly brought Ali's appetite for mischief (and publicity) out...

    bearing in mind ali was a successful black man , it would nt be long before someone tried to discredit him with sleaze stories and he'd lose a lot of his glitz.

    bizarre that his disease has helped keep the backlash at bay.

    Diseases obviously happen but the pounding in the ring these guys took didn't help matters. Ali was suffering his illness as far back as '77 and should never have fought after that.

    I disagree with that he would wise up like he did later on. Ali had a different outlook on that stuff in the late 80's early 90's. Hopefully he would have a Don King type position or he would be acting in movies and doing Pixar movies.

    Ghandi went through much worse racism than ali ever did. But he never turned extremist as ali did.

    The guy was still young and I think he changed because he realized how he was the same as them. I doubt it was because he had Parkinson's. He still knew what was going on and could still talk a little.
