We have also the testimony Charley Friedman gave to Gallico and the fact that some of his opponents had their purses withheld.

See stated that both the Stribling bouts were choreographed by himself and Striblings father. After See's allegations were made public Stribling's father was asked to comment, he refused to do so.


If you want to believe his fights were on the up and up that is your prerogative.

 

Braddock had his purse withheld, and his boxing licence revoked, because of accusations that his fight with Abe Feldman was fixed.

That is more tangible than anything that has been brought forward against Carnera.

Dutch Weimar probably took a dive against Max Baer.

 

Braddock went into the Feldman fight with a badly damaged hand during the first round of the fight he broke the hand in three places on Feldman's head.
After 5 very pedestrian rounds referee Cavanaugh finally lost patience in the 6th and ordered both men back to their corners declaring a no contest.
When Braddock had his wraps cut off by Doc Robb his trainer it was seen that his hand was "grotesquely misshapen and swollen.Sharp edges of bone could be seen pressing the underside of his flesh ." No accusations by the commission were ever levelled at Braddock or Feldman that the fight was fixed.

Feldman earned the fight by beating Hans Birkie who had beaten Braddock when Braddock was fighting with two broken ribs sustained in a car accident earlier.

Feldman had lost just one of 19 fights when he fought Braddock.

On a side note Carnera was at the fight Braddock /Feldman fight and refereed two supporting bouts.


The Baer /Weimer fight was a case of an over matched fighter deciding discretion was the better part of valour.

If that is a dive then the majority of Carnera's fights qualify.

Weimer was a former middleweight who had lost his last 4 fights , and won just 3 of his last 12. Why would Baer and his people need to arrange a fix?

No accusations were ever brought by the commission against Baer concerning this fight.

I think you've smeared two champs who deserve a retraction.


You made a very big statement ,and I'll retype it.

"Can you name any champion of the period who was not involved in some crooked fights?"

In response to my asking you to provide some names to support your argument you've come up with the Braddock fight which was emphatically on the level, and the Weimer one which has nothing to indicate prior arrangement of any kind.
In short, in the first case you are dead wrong ,in the second you are guilty of exactly what you accuse us of .
Now please provide some names to support your opinion, or retract your statement.
