Only asking because I always thought it was good stoppage with Lewis on very shaky legs but sombody on facebook said it was an awful staoppage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jmFXl1sHh0 What do you think??
A lot of fighters would have been allowed to continue there. I can see why it was stopped and I think these type of stoppages are to protect the fighters but we wouldn't have had many classics if this was enough to stop a bout. Corrales could never have beaten Castillo with that type of officiating. Lewis may have recovered and won, he's was shaky but not incoherent there. So it depends, from the fighters perspective They wouldn't wanna be stopped like that and could an do recover to win from those types of conditions. I mean Carl Froch was hurt as bad as that and allowed to continue. I wouldn't call it a bad stoppage though although it'd been interesting to see if McCall would have knocked him down again.
Lewis was badly hurt,he was wobbling,it was a definite stoppage. McCall would have put him to sleep with another punch.
yeah I agree lewis was in trouble if it continued lewis would of got hurt, he was gone having said that if you look when McCall throws the punch he has his eyes closed some what lucky to connect it was just a wild swing
One of them clear lucky shots :yep Weird part of it all is that today he would be called "exposed", "overrated", "glass jawed joke" or even "bum" if that would happen to him, while he's one of the greatest ever.
well theres a clear difference between froch and lewis here - froch got straight up and was very slightly unsteady for a second but then totally coherent and straight immediately after (though obviously still suffering somewhat). lewis on the otherhand here is tottering forward into the refs arms. You could argue that its slightly premature but not by much. of course, a big SHMW and a SMW have entirely different weights to try to balance after a knockldown, but then share the same quality of 'balancing equipment' in the inner ear, so lewis is going to look worse (and of course a HW punch is harder ).
