Mediocre overall, with a limited, weak chinned power puncher like Corrales as one of the better fighters saying it all, though Mayweather was a much better looking fighter there than the majority of the time above the weight.he had the look of a great and pretty rounded boxer-puncher at times whereas he's never quite recaptured that since imther than maybe 2-3 fights where the comp wasn't up to much...N'Dou, Gatti etc I was always really keen on watching him fight and progress at 130.
I think mediocre is a little harsh. Jesus Chavez and Carlos Hernandez both went on to win titles, Corrales is a 'maybe' future hall of fame inductee, and Genaro Hernandez falls just short of IBHOF consideration. Also, Carlos Gerena was a very highly regarded contender, but losing to Mayweather, coupled with a rumored taste for the party lifestyle stalled his progress. And of course for a long time Angel Manfredy was one of the better fighters in boxing not to win an alphabet title. Of course it is unfortunate that 130 didn't really enter a sort of brief golden age until a year of two after Mayweather absconded to lightweight. Its a pity we didn't get to see him in against Accelino Freitas, Joel Casamayor, Nate Campbell, Morales, or Barrera.
Angel Manfredy was a thoroughly mediocre overhyped fighter imo.Not someone i ever had any time for. Genaro Hernandez was good a few years prior to Floyd, but he was ancient and had looked it recently.He looked a shadow of the fighter he was in the mid-90s. Hernandez and Chavez were probably the best of the challengers, both decent tough fighters, but with pretty poor skills.solid wins though. If calling it mediocre was harsh, it was certainly no better than ordinary.
